Bawat ngiti, bawat luha | Every smile, every tear
Bawat gising, bawat pikit | Every time you wake up, every time you close your eyes
Bawat hangin na tinatanggap | Every air you breathe
Bawat buga | Every exhale
At habang ikaâ˛y yinayakap nang maigi | And while I hug you tight
Binubulong ang dalanging 'wag sana maglaho sa hangin | I whisper a prayer that hopefully won't fade in the wind
Ang bawat piyesa na bumubuo saâ˛yo | Every piece that makes you
Bawat piyesang nawa'y mapasaakin habang-buhay | Every piece that I hope will be with me forever
Dito ka na lang habang-buhay | Please stay here forever
Habang-buhay | Forever
Oh, ang init ng iyong balat | Oh, the warmth of your skin
At bawat sinulid ng iyong buhok | And every strand of your hair
Dumaraan ang ilaw sa mga bulsa't | The light passes through pockets
Dumarating sa akin | And reaches me
At habang ikaâ˛y yinayakap nang maigi | And while I hug you tight
Binubulong ang dalanging 'wag sana maglaho sa hangin | I whisper a prayer that hopefully won't fade in the wind
Ang bawat piyesa na bumubuo saâ˛yo | Every piece that makes you
Bawat piyesang nawa'y mapasaakin habang-buhay | Every piece that I hope will be with me forever
Dito ka na lang habang-buhay | Please stay here forever
Habang-buhay | Forever
Huwag kang bibitaw, huwag kang mawawala | Don't let go, please don't go away
Oh, aking dinadala ang bawat piyesa ng ikaw | Oh, I take with me every piece of you
Anoâ˛ng gagawin kung wala ka? | What would I do without you
Kung wala ka? | Without you?
Dito ka na lang habang-buhay | Please stay here forever
Habang-buhay | Forever
Habang-buhay | Forever
Happy Birthday Jackie!
Hi! I was working on this before I took a break. Honestly will be staying on break, but figured I should post this since I actually finished it. I thought the song was perfect. It's not typical Samurai, but then they're not performing as Samurai anyway. Something like V asking Kerry if he can do a little something with her for her best friend's birthday, and when Kerry knew who and what it was for, he said ok and they looked for songs together. And they chose this song. Johnny just happened to be there because he's always checking up on V anyway, and he knows what this date means. And I got Martha (from the ofrenda) just because she looks cool with her Valentinos jacket lol. Oh! And just think somebody's playing the flute, or it's pre-recorded haha
Song is Bawat Piyesa by Munimuni
Kerry Eurodyne - vocals, guitar
Johnny Silverhand (in V's older bro's body lol) - backing vocals, guitar
Valerie Chua - backing vocals, bass
Martha Frakes (she and V survived coma haha) - drums
Jackie's Birthday, El Coyote Cojo, May 26, 2080

I definitely talked about this before but the âfor her beauty she was raped, for her ugliness she was murderedâ always gave me the ick, itâs simply not rooted in reality. It implies that only conventionally attractive women get assaulted, which is a horrible way to view how assault works bc itâs basically stating that rape is mainly about lust, itâs not, itâs about power, itâs violating another personâs bodily autonomy to exert your power over them, anyone regardless of how beautiful or ugly they are can get raped.
Itâs ironically another way DanaĂŤ is sidelined, hell in âStone Blindâ Medusa straight up rambles about how Perseus was antagonistic towards Polydectes for no reason bc he was never âactuallyâ interested in DanaĂŤ bc sheâs an older woman and single mother and sheâs just not attractive, I wish I was making that up but Iâm not and ppl are praising this book for how feminist it is. The fact that DanaĂŤ is an older woman matters to her story (at youngest sheâd be in her mid to late 30s), back then (and even now) youth was viewed in high regard, yet DanaĂŤ isnât youthful anymore, sheâs âpast her primeâ so to speak but a powerful man like Polydectes still wanted to either enslave or marry her, bc again itâs not about lust itâs about power, it wouldnât be far fetched to say that he wanted her bc she rejected him and he just couldnât handle that, he canât stand that a poor abandoned woman would not be interested in him, the king and wealthiest man in the island.
That Andromeda retelling is doing this too, framing Andromedaâs beauty as the reason she was assaulted, rather than the fact men target her bc sheâs a girl. Ironically it removes the blame from the men who abuse her and instead blames it solely on Aphrodite, which yes itâs hella sexist and excuses menâs toxic behavior on their ânatureâ (the gods) like theyâre animals who canât control how they act when they see beauty.
Once when I was in undergrad, someone described something as âproblematicâ in class and our professor was like, âThatâs cool, but âproblematicâ doesnât really mean anything. It means that the thing youâre describing has a problem, and in and of itself thatâs not bad. Art, especially, should always have problems, or else itâs not interesting and not art, either. It sounds like youâre trying to say that this is bad, but you donât want to say âbad.â Is that right?â
So from then on whenever one of us called something problematic, he would make us talk it out until we could name the âbadâ thing we were hinting at. In this particular class, 7/10 it was some type of oppression, and the remainder was like, âIâm uncomfortable because this is very new/confusing/pushing boundaries that made me feel safe.â
Once we stopped calling things âproblematicâ and stopping at that, class got way more interesting and... we all had to say, like, âthatâs racistâ or âthatâs misogynisticâ or âew capitalism grossâ out loud, which a lot of us had never done in a classroom before. Or we had to be like, âUhhh... Iâm not sure whatâs so bad?â and confront our own beliefs and that was maybe even more useful.
Anyway. Whenever I see the word problematic, I canât help but think of this professor being like, âGood starting point, now letâs get specific.â I think when we have to commit to saying âthatâs ___â it requires a lot more careful thought about the truth and impact and complexities of whatever weâre claiming. Sometimes there really is some bullshit afoot, and also sometimes itâs art, and it should be full of problems, because thatâs what art is.
#'this is present in the text' is often a good first step #but those second and third ones (naming it; describing its function) are vital (via @elucubrare)
