TIMELINE
1945, mid autumn: Born as Arthur Fenwick to two half-blood parents of lower economic standing, with two siblingsâone brother and one sister, each two years older than the last.Â
1947, late spring: The Fenwicks moved out of London and into rural territory, despite warnings of violent crime in the area. With both parents struggling for income and prices low in the area, they felt they had little choice.
1950, late winter: The house the Fenwicks lived in is broken into several times in one month, with no items taken. Local law enforcement, even of the wizarding variety, are unhelpful and the perpetrators go uncaptured. On the night of the full moon, when both parents briefly leave the houseâone to work and one to a local shopâa werewolf breaks in. The attack results in the death of his sister and leaves him found in critical condition... and permanently changed.
1951, early summer: the Fenwicks leave the rural scene with their remaining child, giving Arthur up to his werewolf sire in the hopes that they could salvage their family. Under the care of that werewolf, he is renamed and reborn as Fenrir Greyback.
1959, mid spring: His caretaker is killed by aurors. After a lifetime on the streets and treated as an outcast, his hatred of wizardkind is bone-deep and further justified.
1965, late autumn: Greyback attacks and kills two muggle children. they are targeted for transformation, but donât live through the experience. He manages to avoid capture by the Ministry and is never prosecuted for his crime. Tensions between magical beings (specifically werewolves) and wizardkind have never been higher, and the idea of an organized allegiance takes root in his mind. The number of attacks, particularly on wizarding children, grow. Those that survive his initial attacks are usually abandoned by their families and brought into his fold.
1969, mid summer: Fenrir begins a real effort to recruit werewolves among the underground. To fund this effort and further intrench his influence, he starts trading illegal artefacts among the dregs and dark wizards of society.Â
1970, mid winter: He begins doing business with, and attracts attention from, the first of the Death Eaters. Although radically different in ideals, their interests seem to meet in the middleâboth want muggles and plenty of wizardkind subjugated.Â
1972, late spring: Fenrir and his growing underground society of werewolves pledge some allegiance to the Death Eaters and Lord Voldemort. Thereâs tension and not much trust between them, but a truce makes sense until the dusts of war settle.
1973, mid autumn: Greybackâs werewolves and the Death Eaters clash with recent attacks on non-humans and, in particular, werewolves. The attacks are short-lived, and while they remain aligned, Fenrirâs limited trust further dwindles. They are as much the enemy as the rest of wizardkind.
1979, early summer: Remus Lupin, once thought one of Greybackâs lost cubs, returns and joins among his ranks. He lauds it as proof that all werewolves will eventually come to see the importance of his goals... and his leadership over them.
1981, late autumn: Voldemort is defeated and his death eaters rounded up. Fenrir and many of his packmates going into hiding while aurors stalk the land. Although he doesnât break his truce against them, they offer no assistance to the remaining death eaters... even those desperate enough to beg for it.
1982, mid winter: Greyback and his werewolves reach the public eye and make their intentions for wizarding society knownâthey will be at the top of the food chain, and all others will be put beneath them. The threat is met once again with outcries for his arrest, but he isnât able to be located or apprehended.
1984, mid autumn: Emboldened with hatred as the war settles into the background, and disappointed with the Death Eaterâs performance with wizard society, he and his pack attack Hogwarts and kill many. One girl is turned, but refuses to join in his ranks, despite his best efforts to convince her otherwise. Voldemort and his allies are publicly announced to be enemies after their retreat and many imprisonments, driving their skirmishes up. Vampires are openly hunted down within what is considered âwerewolf territoryâ.
1986âpresent: Many Death Eaters disappear, leaving Fenrir and his pack at direct odds most often with vampires, when not the Ministry of magic itself. Greyback, although laying lower, continues his campaign against wizarding and muggle children alike, aiming to regain some of his lost numbers.Â
PERSONALITY
(+) ASSERTIVE: Confident or forceful, usually to achieve a goal of some kind. To the letter, Fenrir is certainâto a vicious degreeâabout himself and his ideals. He has gone to lengths that no werewolf ever has in order to achieve them, and continues to do so well past the reach of a common regard for life. Whatever the cost, he will pay it... whether itâs seeking an artefact of power or declaring war on the whole of wizardkind.
(-) CONNIVING: Given to or prone to behaving in ways that are immoral, illegal, or otherwise harmful. As a werewolf, Greyback is never above breaking the laws (universal or otherwise) that seek to keep him down, and no act is too low as long as it brings him and his kind liberation. Heâs cheated, lied, stolen, killed... and heâll do it a thousand more times before heâs rightfully apprehended. If thereâs a way to get the job done with dirty tricks, thatâs more often than not the route heâll take.
(+) RESOURCEFUL: The ability to find quick and clever ways to overcome obstacles. A lifetime at the edges of society has given Fenrir the instincts of an alley cat. He knows the shortcuts he needs to take in life, but even when something new comes along, heâs not far behind with a solution. Itâs what has kept him out of Azkaban for so long, and from any remaining clutches that the former dark lord might try and impose upon their kind.
(-) DISTURBING: Causing worry. Vulgar and defiant of all things that the wizarding world has thus far decreed, Fenrir has always had a knack for being off-putting. Whether itâs his openly wolfish appearance or his own bordering-on-feral behavior, he has struck more than simple fear into the hearts of society, heâs sown revulsion. All the better for it, in his own mind. If he canât convince them otherwise, why not embrace his nature?
(+) FEARLESS: Without fear. While eager to recognize it in others, the same emotion hasnât bothered Greyback in many, many, many years. He isnât afraid to die, unlike the pitiful fool at the head of the Death Eaters, and has always been eager to face his opposition. There is nothing on Earth or among the other realms that have stirred fear in his blackened heart, and itâs unlikely that it will ever change. Boldness is much more prized among his ranks, save for dealings with him...
(-) VIOLENT: Action with the intention of harming someone, usually involving physical force. Having always been rough around the edges, Fenrir fully embraced violence early in life. Wolves have always settled disputes with force, and why shouldnât he? The wolf is better than man in every way but oneâthe drive, until now, to unite and remake the world in their image. But with that covered, thereâs no instinct left to deny himself, and that more often than not leads to bringing someone harm.
