What is this blog?

Every month we post one prompt that you are invited to make any kind of art with — no matter if you are a painter, a cartoonist, a writer, a sculptor, a musician, or anything else! We will then try our best to reblog every contribution, so please make sure to @ us and/or use the correct month tag which will be listed with every prompt! Let's try to set aside a little time each month and stay motivated to create together!

Fan art/fiction is just as welcome as original works!

Mature (within site guidelines) and heavy themes in your work are just as welcome as happy, carefree ones.

Since this is an attempt to create an uplifitng and comfortable space for creatives of any kind, bigotry is not tolerated. Please do reach out to us if you spot something that makes you uncomfortable or that is downright hateful — there's a good chance we just overlooked it and would love to correct any mistakes made.

We're doing our best to make the prompts as inclusive as possible. That includes trying to make them open enough to accommodate writing, drawing, painting, sculpting, textile crafting, etc., but it also means that we attempt to accommodate disabled artists, for example by providing touch-based alternatives for more visual prompts. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you notice us going about this in an unconstructive or unhelpful way! Your input is deeply appreciated.

Basically what it says in the title! The mission statement remains the same: motivate each other to create!

As someone who loves to be creative but rarely takes the time out of my day anymore to actually create, I originally started this blog in 2023 to provide an alternative to intense, month-long art/writing challenges like inktober, mermay, or nanowrimo for myself and others like me. I know it's entirely in my head, but missing even one day always felt like a failure and when I inevitably would not find time to participate one day my motivation for the entire month would evaporate. To counteract this: 1 prompt per month, if you miss one or more it's fine! They don't share a theme, they are not a set, however often you can join in is more than enough!

Unfortunately, I didn't plan ahead far enough originally and just when it hit one of the busiest times of year for me (jan/feb), the queue for this blog ran out without my notice. Not this time, though! Before writing this post, I have already queued up every single prompt for a full year of being creative together. This time, I want to keep at it and have prepared accordingly.

Ultimately, this blog is supposed to motivate myself as much as others. If you, too, need a reminder to be creative once a month without pressure in order to actually create, I'd love for you to join me. Check out this blog's pinned post for a little more info on how this is run! I look forward to re-introducing some creativity into each other's lives! This month's prompt is: Old Art Revisited

Find the oldest piece of art/writing/etc that you can find (or one that you used to be very proud of when you made it) and redraw/rewrite/resculpt/etc it using what you have learned since you made it!

This month's prompt is: Longest Night OR Longest Day

Your prompt is whichever one applies to your hemisphere!

This month's prompt is: Limitations

You can either use "limitations" as a thematic prompt, limit yourself in your creative process, or do both! Original art and fan art are both welcome, as is any art medium!

This month's prompt is: Something that was lost

This month's prompt is: 5 random songs

Get 5 random songs (can be from your favorite/liked songs playlist, given to you by friends, etc) and try to use inspiration from all of them in your art!

If you are like me, then you really like the idea of art challenges like Mermay, Inktober, etc, but you can never actually find the time and motivation to finish them—which is why I'm starting this blog! My hope is that by limiting the amount of prompts to just 12 per year, people like me will feel less overwhelmed by them.

I'll be sharing a prompt on the first of every month and then reblog every contribution that you make on here, hopefully creating not only a fun exercise for artists but also an easy way of finding artists to follow that you would'nt've found otherwise!

Lastly, this is for all creatives! Some prompts will naturally lend themselves more to a certain kind of art (like writing, drawing, painting, scultping, songwriting, etc) but I will do my best to make all of them as accessible to as many artists as I possibly can!
