THE LIGHT

I made this instrumental to air out the feels.

Throughout Dust Bowl, we learn Willoughbys greatest fear is harsh weather (Scared of the rain, by God… hoping the wind blows slowly) I think during A Knock On The Door (especially during the final lyrics), Ethel realizes that Willoughby isn’t the strong, pillar-to-lean-on kind of guy, and that he too is broken just like her— that they’re just two broken pieces trying to make a whole. Anyways, I think she realizes this especially during the storm before the tornado, where they’re hanging in the abandoned house they usually hung out in. Ethel wants to go home but Willoughbys too scared to go out, so she leaves him there, and we know what happens next. Ethel doesn’t know what happened to him because all she knows is he was gone after the Tornado, and so part of her always lives with the regret of leaving him there. Still, she remains hopeful that one day they’d reunite and live that life they always wanted to. Of course we know this never happens.
