there’s an LGBTQ+ youth center in seoul called dding dong (i’ve been told this is a pun) that i’ve donated to over the years - because south korea is such a conservative country, they’re kind of the sole providers of this much needed work that there’s an increasing demand for, and are fully funded by donations. i got an email today explaining that they very suddenly have to vacate the physical space they’ve been in (which was a donated space), and need to raise $20,000 USD to secure a new one. they’ll also need to pay for the space every month going forward.
as someone who spends a lot of my free time making up pretend gay stories about rich and famous people in korea, it’s always felt important that i also do something to acknowledge the reality for actual queer people in korea, especially youth who don’t have many or any other options for support. the project updates i get about their work are always really touching and i would be so sad to see them struggle or even be forced to shut down due to this. i know money is tight for a lot of people, and there are so many things happening in the world that are worthy causes, but i just wanted to share this one because of its significance to me.
here is their regular fundraiser on globalgiving if you have any ability to donate
merry christmas xoxo
