Just Clownin’ Around!

Eugene thought about the possibility way too much. He thought about waking up every morning to see you, he thought about being there for you through sickness and in health. He thought about watching the sun set over the waves or bickering about something that really didn't matter, or the feel of his lips against your skin, however you would allow it to happen, in the comfort of a home together where neither of you would have to worry about saving the world at the moment.

It was a guilty pleasure, this fantasy that maybe you would stay. Maybe he would linger, a moment, a day, the rest of his life. Maybe he'd come up with some stupid excuse, that he wants to see one last thing before he goes, and get caught up in another adventure. Caught up in you.

He never voiced these thoughts aloud except for those two times. Those were mistakes. But maybe for a moment you, too, could indulge in this mental imagery. And maybe those combined thoughtforms could live their lives together, someplace in a distant dream.
