Novice Aquariust

Spark's home.

I was so excited when i got my first fish: a half moon Betta. I only knew the basics when i got him. Things like how to clean the tank religiously every week and what to feed the fish. I looked at a lot of YouTube videos and thought "I can do this." The first few weeks went well and my fish seemed happy. I was observing him closely to make sure i would notice if anything went wrong. From what i saw nothing did go wrong but maybe i just wasn't looking close enough or knew what to look for because after a month i noticed a bit of his fin missing. I thought it got caught on a plant and tore but after leaving him for a few days on his own (because i had to leave town) i came back to a big chunk of his tail gone! I quickly went to the store and bought fin rot medicine and he seemed to be getting better for a bit. But then he took a turn for the worse and post away a day after i changed his tank. I thought i did everything right. I was doing a ton of research on Bettas, there needs, and what to do if they got sick, but no amount of reading helped save my Spark. It might have not even been fin rot because he also developed a large white patch on his body before he past away. The experience left me heart broken. During that time i acquired another fish tank with a few guppies. I test the water all the time and change it every week. And now i feel like my fruits of labor are fruitless yet again as one of my fish developed fin rot. This time i noticed right away and am currently medicating him. Its been about a week and although he's not getting worse his fin is not healing either so I'm not sure what's going to happen. I hope he gets better soon or this could be the end of a hobby i don't want to end. :(
