What's with the Henry Talbot slander in the latest film. I haven't seen the other films but I watched the whole show and I don't really remember him seeming like a bad guy.

It struck me as being more about Robert than anything else. He's the one who is really furious about Henry, blaming him entirely for the divorce. To his credit, he'd never reject or condemn his daughter for it, but the idea of divorce still fundamentally offends his conservative sensibilities as a concept. Thus, all blame is on Henry. To be fair, Henry is the one who cheated while Mary didn't when she had the chance with the director in the second movie, so he certainly deserves more of the blame but he and Mary were simply a bad match to begin with who got together at a time they were both feeling low and kind of aimless for various reasons (a terrible foundation for a relationship) and Robert seems totally blind to that.

Everyone else seems more disappointed than angry about the divorce, but in deference to Robert's already high temper they're just agreeing with, or at least not protesting, all the harsh things he says about Henry. It's not as if any of them are likely to be socialising with him any time soon, if ever. There doesn't even seem to be any concern over any kind of visitation with his daughter, not that it appears he even knows the child well given how often he was away.

I think its also to do with the fact that whilst Robert knows Mary is ready to manage the estate I think irrationally the divorce whoevers fault it was gives him an excuse to question if she's ready instead of looking at the real reason why he's struggling to let it go - which is that he doesn't know what life looks like after actively running downton. We see a sort of mirror of this with Carson's reaction where he is outraged about the divorce but more coming from how as always it impacts mary.

How very depressing that Neil Gaiman had trended not even a tiny bit for demonstrating what a fucking horrific person he is.

As a reminder, he's suing Caroline Wallner, one of his accusers, for breaking her NDA. Not for libel. He's saying she shouldn't have told anyone about it, not that she lied.

The author says Wallner broke her NDA by sharing her story with the media, including with New York Magazine.

He doesn't need the money. He's risking the Streisand effect. He is punishing Caroline, he's trying to intimidate other victims who have signed NDAs to scare them into continued silence.

He is no friend to women, to the LGBTQIA+ community, to anyone quite frankly unless he thinks they are of value to him.

Share the story. Put it on Facebook and bluesky and whatever else you're on. Make it clear what a horrifying person he is. Tell your friends. He's paying Edendale a fortune to try and cover this up. Make this hard for him. Make it cost him money.

love this emerging genre of doctor who episode where you think it’s a surface level commentary on one topic (social media; ai), but then the rug gets pulled out from underneath you and it’s actually a more severe social commentary (racism; misogyny/incel culture), BUT THEN it’s actually a pretty adept illustration of how the first and second topics are part of the same problem (social media allows people to create echo chambers which reinforce racism and fear mongering to the point of denying their own lived reality; ai masks human biases as technological progress and exacerbates regressive movements like incel culture)
