the party is a group of typically 3-5 players who work together as adventurers. the DM (Dungeon Master) is the game's narrator and referee. the DM controls the environment, the monsters, and all NPCs. then you have a character sheet, document containing your character's stats, equipment, and spells
whenever your character attempts an action with an uncertain outcome (like an attack or persuasion), you roll the d20 dice. you add or subtract specific numbers from your roll based on your character's natural abilities (strength, stealth, that shit). the DM sets a target number, the difficulty class (DC) or an enemy's armor class (AC). if your total roll meets or exceeds this target, you succeed.
my favorite part is actually creating the character, but I low-key struggle to remember the dice roll mechanics sometimes. maybe I’d remember better if I had people to play with 💔
