It’s finally cooled off here in Austin! Not just a little bit either...it has been legit cold 🥶 We even had a dusting of snow this morning! It was love at first sight when I got each of my corgs. It’s probably the same for anyone who gets any new pet. These guys are great! This may look like your average photo of a dog looking out of a window, but for Violet, this is a big deal.⁣ ⁣ From what I know about her past, she was mainly used for breeding. When I brought her home, she had to learn to be a dog! Sounds odd, but that was the case. ⁣ ⁣ She didn’t know what toys were for and she didn’t know what to do with bones. She would stare blankly or not look at me at all when I spoke to her. She would cower when I walked toward her and wee herself. The list goes on and on. ⁣ ⁣ We’ve had her over a year now and teaching her to trust has been a rewarding experience, but also eye-opening of how different adopting an adult dog compares to raising one from puppyhood. The boys have always had anything they wanted, so they don’t know any different, and I love that they are completely comfortable and confident doggies. But with Violet, you can see how much she appreciates having a home where she can just be loved and be a dog, because that wasn’t always the case. ⁣ Kirby and Pippin have taught her a lot (and she may or may not have picked up some bad habits along the way e.g. begging 😆). It also may not be the best idea to teach her to sit up for sniffies out of the car window (may have to look into some doggles lol). But because she didn’t seem to have that great of a past with whomever bred her, we try to make sure she gets to do normal things the boys find fun, or at the very least, let her try things out and decide if she wants to participate. ⁣ ⁣ She’s come a long way in a year and a half and we love her like she’s been with us for all of her 8 years. ⁣ ⁣ This post is just a reminder that puppies are fantastic. Everyone loves puppies! But don’t rule out adopting an older dog.
