| Three Weeks After the Fight with Akaza |
From the moment that news of the infinity train had reached the Butterfly Mansion, it wasn't as cheerful as it had been before.
Rengoku's injuries were rather severe; his torn muscles and broken ribs left him bedridden for a couple of weeks. His eye, while heavily damaged, was repaired thanks to Shinobu's hard work.
Tanjiro, Zenitsu, and Inosuke had minor injuries as well. Small cuts and bruises were common among the three of them.
Nezuko was also hurt in the fight, but due to her demon physiology, she was able to heal with some well-deserved sleep.
The worst of them all was Y/n. The stab wound she received had miraculously healed, which confused Shinobu to no end. But even though it was healed, Y/n hadn't woken up in the three weeks since she returned to the Butterfly Mansion.
The head of the house, Shinobu, theorized that it was due to extreme exhaustion. The accounts of that night from Tanjiro, Zenitsu, Inosuke, and Rengoku, it seemed that while she was still suffering from the stab wound, Y/n pushed herself too far when joining the fight, even though said wound was able to heal.
She lay motionless in her room, with dark circles under her eyes, even though she'd gotten nothing but sleep.
A worried and strained expression was constantly on her face as if fighting through some pain.
And everyone couldn't help but wonder if she was ever going to wake up.
It was hard seeing her like this. Tanjiro sat next to her bed, his hand holding hers. His thumb rubbed imaginary patterns into her skin, thoughts anything but clear.
He felt like he had failed her. Even though she was in pain, even though she was injured, she still fought tooth and nail to save a life. He wasn't the type to drown in self-pity, but Tanjiro couldn't help it.
This was the woman he cherished more than anything. And he couldn't help her. There was a wall between him and his success, and he wasn't able to get past it.
Tanjiro paused for a moment, looking up from her hand to her face.Â
He had to grow stronger. No doubt there. He needed to be able to protect her, no matter what. He made a promise to her. He'll finish this mess. He'll defeat Muzan. For Nezuko and Y/n's sake.
"Tanjiro! We have dinner waiting for you!" One of the butterfly girls called from down the hall.
His grip loosened on her hand, and slowly, Tanjiro got up from his chair. He walked to the door, turning to face her once more, worry etched into his features.
"Please wake up, Y/n. I have to make this up to you."
With that, he left her room. He practically dragged his feet to go eat dinner.
She wasn't supposed to leave her box during the day; she knew that. She knew that Shinobu wasn't going to be happy about her leaving the shaded den where she resided for Y/n's room across the mansion.
But Nezuko didn't really care at the moment.
All she wanted to do was see Y/n, whom she hadn't been able to catch a glimpse of for weeks.
Nezuko knew that she had been in a coma for those few weeks, so she felt nothing but worry for the girl.
So as she crept through the halls in her smaller form, Nezuko was intent on seeing the girl she loved so dearly for so many years.
When Nezuko reached Y/n's room, she hummed a worried tone under her bamboo muzzle.
She crawled to the bed, climbing on top of Y/n, and lying on her chest. Nezuko let out a pleased purr as she snuggled into the h/c-haired girl.
The demon girl lay there for a while, just basking in the feeling of being near Y/n. Her clawed hand slowly reached for Y/n's soft fingers.
She laced her hand with Y/n's all while letting out a happy rumble.
Her thoughts turned to prayers. Hoping that her friend will wake up sometime soon.
Nezuko then slowly drifted off to sleep, fully realizing that she was going to get the scolding of a lifetime from Shinobu later.
But at the moment, that didn't matter. All that mattered to her right now was that she was with Y/n. That's all she needed for now.
He spent a long time crying. Worrying. Hoping. Wondering when the love of his life was going to wake up from her coma.
This had been going on for weeks now. He would enter her room, sit by her side, and tell her stories from the day. From the weird to the slightly amusing to anything regarding Inosuke being stupid, Zenitsu would talk to her for hours.
He didn't know for sure if she could hear him at all. He hoped she could. He wanted her to hear him. But there was really no way to know if she could unless she was awake to tell him.
Today, he sat next to Y/n and told her about the really good piece of tempura he was about to have, but Inosuke stole and ate it right in front of him.
But after telling that silly story, Zenitsu paused. His eyes were filled with tenderness and love.
"Y/n, I hope you're okay..." He held her hand, bringing it close to his chest, so she could feel his heartbeat, "I want to hear your voice. I want to hear your laugh again."
Tears started to fall from his eyes, "Y/n... you're worrying all of us..."
Zenitsu gripped her hand a little tighter, "I really do want to marry you, Y/n. So please... wake up. So we can be happy together."
A shadow cast over his face, heart aching slightly. He slowly placed her hand back where it was. Then he stood and walked out the door, wiping away any stray tears.
Inosuke was kicking himself. He felt like a loser, and he hated it. He wasn't able to do anything after the train crashed.
Specifically, he wasn't able to do anything for Y/n. She had jumped into the fray without a second thought. He should have done that. He should have been the one injured, not her.
For some reason, he couldn't understand; he felt funny around Y/n. Inosuke couldn't help but want to impress her with his strength. To bring her nice things like acorns and pretty rocks.
He didn't hate this feeling, but it was just... different. Inosuke wanted to protect Y/n, but he failed to do that.
Right now, Inosuke was out in the garden. He was picking up acorns that he thought would be a perfect gift for Y/n when she woke up.
The boar man sifted through the grass, picking up small and large rocks that were particularly pretty. And if he found a nice, full, and shiny acorn, he picked those up as well.
Soon, he entered the mansion with his haul, hands cupped to hold his bits and bobbles.
When he arrived at Y/n's room, he set the acorns and rocks on her nightstand. They clattered a bit and then settled in a small pile.
Inosuke was silent for a moment. He walked closer to her bedside, just standing there, unsure of what to do from there.
"I found these." He was quiet again. It was hard to render Inosuke speechless, but she had unknowingly done it.
"Don't stay asleep forever, Bug Eyes. After fighting like that, you have to fight me next. Got it?" Inosuke was mumbling, but he couldn't raise his voice any higher.
He turned and left the room, slightly hesitating when he reached the doorway, but he continued into the hallway.
She came every day to check on her. Every so often, she would change the flowers in the vase on her nightstand.
Kanao had been feeling strange. Ever since the day Y/n told her to follow her heart, she hasn't been the same.
Slowly but surely, she would make decisions on her own, without the coin.
It was odd for her, at first. Kanao would feel the urge to grab the coin from her pocket, but then Y/n's words would come into her mind, and she'd stop.
A warm feeling bloomed across her chest every time Y/n had crossed her thoughts. She didn't exactly know what it meant, but it was a nice feeling nonetheless.
Today, she noticed something she hadn't before. It was a hairpin, one that Kanao remembered Y/n wearing all the time. It sat on the table next to her bed; it wasn't there the day before.
Kanao went and asked Aoi if she knew about it.
"The hairpin? One of the Kakushi found it at the train sight. They didn't know who it belonged to until Tanjiro recognized it. So they put it in Y/n's room for when she wakes up."
The girl nodded and went back to Y/n's room. The hairpin was broken, which she was sure of. The clasp of the pin had snapped off, the piece right next to the rest of it.
Kanao delicately picked it up, wondering if she could fix it somehow. While inspecting it, she concluded that the pieces were too chipped and damaged to put back together.
She put it back down. Y/n was definitely going to be disappointed about it. If she wore it all the time, it must have meant something to her.Â
With a frown on her face, Kanao left the room, trying to think of what she could do to fix it.Â
She didn't even have to flip the coin to know that this was something she wanted to do. Kanao was following her heart. When Y/n woke up, she would be happy to hear this.
Y/n just had to wake up. Any day now.
As a doctor, Shinobu was worried about her patient's condition and lack of lucidity.Â
And as a friend, she was worried that Y/n was never going to wake up.
She would walk into her room every day, give her some medicine, and check where the stab wound was.
It still baffled her that there was no sign of it. From what Tanjiro said, it was a rather deep cut, but when she looked at the area he indicated, nothing but Y/n's smooth skin was seen.
When Y/n woke up, she'd ask about it.
As that thought occurred to her, a troubling bit of anxiety crossed her mind.
What if Y/n never woke up?
She shook her head; that thought process wasn't going to do her any good. Shinobu had to have hope.
For the sake of the younger girls, the Insect Hashira stayed smiling. They were worried enough already. If they saw her sweating about this, they would only feel worse.
But she couldn't stop the feeling from chipping away at her hopes. It had been three, nearly four weeks of Y/n's endless sleep. The constant troubled expression on the girl's beautiful face didn't help either.
It was as if she were fighting through something. Or maybe she was focusing too hard. Whatever it was, it didn't quell Shinobu's concerns.
The black-to-purple-haired woman stood next to Y/n's bedside. She had just finished checking where the stab wound was. Still nothing.
She sighed, a somber expression on her face,Â
"You're quite the troublemaker, Y/n. You're worrying us all. You're a medical anomaly. And you make my heart beat too fast." Shinobu's hands grazed Y/n's fingers, wanting to take hold of her hand, but also being too nervous to do so.
Her voice went quieter, "I didn't think I'd fall for someone so hard... but you seem to be full of surprises."
Shinobu's expression softened, "Surprise me again. Despite all of this... wake up. Please... I don't like to beg."
After a moment of pure silence, she turned away. Hesitantly walking toward the door and leaving for the hallway.
Rengoku was finally able to visit. Shinobu had put him on bed rest for the past few weeks, even though he'd been dying to see a certain girl. One he's decided something about.Â
He was in love with her. No doubt in his mind. He may have only known her for a short time, but it couldn't be anything else.
Her bravery. Her strength. Her beauty. He loved her. She had saved his life without hesitation, and now he was sure that he would do the same for her.Â
 Y/n L/n was remarkable to him, someone who ignited a fire within his heart.
Today, he sat at her bedside. Silent as could be, with a frown on his face.
Even though she should've awakened weeks ago, she still had her eyes closed in a deep slumber.
Rengoku wanted to thank her endlessly. To dote on her and show his affection. But he couldn't. Not like this. Not while she wasn't conscious.
He stared at her, silently willing her to wake up. To open her eyes and smile at him. He wanted this more than anything.Â
The flame-haired man reached over and caressed the side of her face, tucking a small piece of loose hair behind her ear.Â
His warm hand lingered on her cheek, holding it for a moment.
He could swear, if only for a moment, that there was a faint smile on her lips at his touch.Â
When he pulled away, he looked down at that same hand. It felt even warmer than it did before. A ghost of a smile came onto his features.Â
He decided to look forward to the moment when he could do this all the time.
On the day that turned three weeks of sleep into four, something strange happened.Â
She stirred a bit. No one was in her room to see, but slight movements came from under her covers.Â
Her fingers would twitch a bit. Then her arms and torso.Â
All until she jolted upright. Her breaths started to heave, her mind completely and utterly blank for that moment.
What the... Where am I!?
Y/n glanced around the room. It was slightly familiar. The layout reminded her of... the Butterfly Mansion! That's where she was.
A small sigh of relief escaped her. At least she was somewhere she was acquainted with.
The h/c haired girl stretched a bit, her muscles a bit stiff. How long had she been lying here? What was the last thing she remembered?
That had to be falling asleep in Rengoku's arms, his smiling face looking down at her.
But there was something else, wasn't there? Something in between then and now. Though she couldn't recall anything else.
Slowly, she swung her leg off the bed, letting her bare feet touch the hardwood floors.
Y/n stood up; her legs were slightly wobbly. Just how long was she asleep for? It felt like she hadn't walked for days!
Once she got her footing, she started to wander down the halls of the Butterfly Mansion.
No one was around, so she had to go find someone and ask them some of the millions of questions she had plaguing her mind at the moment.
She spotted someone at the very end of the hall, and it was Tanjiro!
A grateful smile crossed her face, "Tanjiro! Hey!" Her voice was slightly groggy, but it should have been loud enough for him to hear her.
Tanjiro froze for a moment. He blinked slowly, rubbing his eyes and then staring back at her.
"Tanjiro! Can you hear me?"
Tears sprang to his eyes. He started to run towards her, enveloping her in a giant hug, holding her tightly as if she could disappear at any moment.
"Thank goodness! Thank goodness!" His tears started to drip onto her shoulders as he squeezed her tightly, "Y/n... I'm so glad you're awake!"
"T-tanjiro! Are you okay!?" She held onto him as well, wrapping her arms around his torso, a worried expression taking over her features.
"You were asleep for so long...! I thought... I thought I'd never talk to you again!"
"Huh? How long was I asleep for?"
He pulled back a bit, facing her with tears still dripping down his cheeks, "Today would make four weeks..."
Well, that explained why she was so stiff.
Y/n smiled up at him, "Sorry for worrying you, Tanjiro. I really am..."
Tanjiro shook his head, "You don't have to apologize! Let's go find everyone else, okay? They'll be happy to see you, too!"
She nodded, letting the boy take his hand in hers and guiding her to the other rooms.
Everyone was glad, of course, but Shinobu wasn't feeling right about something.
"Y/n, you really shouldn't be out and about." Shinobu sternly said.
"But I feel fine, really, I don't feel pain anywhere. Maybe I'm a little tired, but that's it!"
Shinobu frowned, still unsure about how Y/n had healed. If she went into a coma after being exhausted, as Shinobu thought, then her muscles should be aching. Or her legs wouldn't let her stand. There should be no way that Y/n is this healthy after a scare like that.
"You really are a medical anomaly." Shinobu sighed, deciding to take it in stride, "Just be careful, alright? If you get tired, sit or lie down."
She then turned to Aoi, "And make sure she's getting three meals a day, okay?"
Aoi nodded.
"I want to watch you for the next week or so, okay? I need to see how you react to being out of your coma."
Y/n nodded as well, going to her room to lie down in her bed, trying to get comfortable. Her back was a bit stiff from lying in the same position for those four weeks.
Shinobu and Aoi had gone in the other direction shortly after their conversation, but Shinobu almost lingered a bit, like she wanted to say something but couldn't.
It wasn't until they had both left that someone she had least expected to come into the room.

Rengoku didn't allow it to connect; his sword sliced the demon's arm into two. This made him skid back a bit on his feet.
However, the wound healed almost immediately. The demon lifted his arm, licking away a stray droplet of blood from the back of his hand.
"Nice blade."
Rengoku was smiling, but there was no joy in his eyes, "I can't understand why you're targeting a wounded person."
This demon smiled back at him, amusement coursing through him, "I thought she'd get in the way of our conversation between you and me."
"You and I have something to talk about?" He carried his blade, ready for his next attack, "It's our first time meeting, but I already hate you."
The pink-haired demon smirked, "Is that so? I hate weak humans. When I look at weaklings, I just feel disgusted."
"It looks like you and I have very different values in that regard."
The demon put a hand on his hip, "I see. Then I have a wonderful proposal." His smile grew, "How about you become a demon too?"
Without a single bit of hesitation, Rengoku shook his head, "Not a chance."
"I know your strength just by looking at you, you're a Hashira, right? Your fighting spirit is quite polished. You're getting close to supreme territory."
A moment of silence passed before Rengoku spoke again, "I am the Flame Hashira, Kyojuro Rengoku."
"And I'm Akaza. Kyojuro, I'll tell you why you aren't crossing into supreme territory." He pointed at Rengoku, a serious look on his face, "Because you're human. Because you'll grow old. Because you'll die."
Akaza's stare bore into the Flame Hashira, "Become a demon, Kyojuro, if you do, you can continue to train for a hundred. Even two hundred years. You can become stronger."
This isn't good!! If this guy is Upper-Rank Three, then he has a lot of Muzan's blood in him... I have to back up Rengoku! But I'm in so much pain...
"Growing old and dying is a part of the beauty of humans. Because they grow old and die, they are tremendous, lovable, and precious. What they call strength isn't a word that is used regarding the body." He stood squarely in front of Y/n, "This girl isn't weak. Don't insult her. I'll say it again, you and I have different values. I will never become a demon."
"I see." He got into a wide stance, his palm outstretched to face them, "If you won't become a demon, then I'll kill you!!"
Then their assault on each other began.
A flurry of flames blocked each of Akaza's attacks; they moved so quickly that it was hard to tell what was going on.
The rest of their group found Y/n, trying to help her steady her breaths.
"Y/n, you have to calm down! Your breathing is too ragged!" Tanjiro held her hand as Y/n rested on his shoulder. Her chest was rapidly moving up and down with unsteady breaths.
Something bad was going to happen, she knew it. That same feeling the night before her family died, this was it! Rengoku was going to die if she didn't do something.
She slowly tried to get up, but was held down by Zenitsu.
"Y/n-chan! Don't get up! You're hurt!"
I can't sit by! I can't do nothing! I won't just let Rengoku die, not like my family did!

What the... who is that?
That same voice was the one that woke her up from her dream!

In a split second, Y/n was at Rengoku's side. Her sword completely sliced through Akaza's arm, leaving nothing of his arm but his rotator cuff.
The limb fell to the ground with a small thud. Akaza stared in disbelief, his head slowly turning to face Y/n.
She let out a breath, opening her eyes to show that her e/c eyes had larger flecks of jade in them.
"I won't let it end like this." Y/n swung her sword again at the demon, aimed straight for his neck, but Akaza managed to fall back a considerable amount.
"L/n... your injuries...!" Rengoku started to speak, but he stopped when he noticed that the wound had completely closed. The tear in her uniform, where the stab wound was revealed nothing but her s/t (Skin Tone) skin.
A determined expression was on her face, and she stood protectively in front of Rengoku, "I'm not letting you die here. You have so much to do." She looked over her shoulder at him, "You can't die until no family has to worry about demons anymore, okay?"
He felt a warmth come across his chest, his one good eye widening a bit, the other shut due to the fight. She had just saved him. Her wounds were healed. Rengoku was simply amazed.
Akaza rushed forward, a wide grin on his face, "What a fighting spirit! You! What is your name!?"
She blocked his next attack with her sword, slicing at his left arm, as he had not regenerated his other limb yet.
"I'm Y/n L/n, and I will take your head!"
The demon froze. This was the girl Muzan wanted! He had called her weak before, but now he saw why the master wanted her; she was truly remarkable!
"Even with an injury, you made it all the way here... Y/n, you're incredible. You're wonderful. Become a demon, you'll only grow from there."
Y/n narrowed her eyes, "I would rather eat rocks."
Akaza's eye twitched a bit in annoyance, "Then come with me to his Lordship. He's been waiting for you."
"He can wait for an eternity!" Y/n rushed forward, aiming for his head again.
Psyche | Anima
She cut halfway through his neck before he managed to get out of the way. Sweat dripped from his forehead. No human had ever gotten that far into his neck.
"Become a demon, Y/n! It's what you're made for!" Akaza made another move, but it was once again blocked thanks to Y/n's incredible speed.
"I was made to bring joy to my family! I'll never become a demon, you hear! I'll rot in hell before I even consider it!!!"
That's when a flicker of light dashed across the horizon. Akaza's eyes widened a bit, terror striking through his entire body.
He rushed to the forest, trying to find some sort of cover.
Y/n tried to go after him, but she felt her body tense up. She let out a small gasp and fell to the ground, letting out a round of coughs.
She felt a warm hand place itself on her back, gently soothing her.
Tanjiro was rushing towards the forest as well, shouting his head off at Akaza, about how she and Rengoku were the true victors, and that he was a coward.
Her vision went a bit blurry as she tried to focus on the sights before her.
It took a moment, but she finally saw Rengoku by her side.
"L/n?"
"S...sorry... What was that...?"
Rengoku smiled at her, "Thank you. You saved my life."
She gave him a small grin, "No sweat."
He laughed a bit before reaching and cradling her in his arms.
"Whatever you do... don't die. I have to properly thank you after all this."
"What do you mean? You just thanked me already..."
"Don't worry about that for now, just rest. The Kakushi will arrive in a bit."
She felt her body grow weaker, "O...okay..." Her eyes started to flutter shut.
The last sight she saw was Rengoku's face smiling down at her.
When she awoke, she was in her old family home. But it looked slightly different. The wood looked less worn, newer, and brighter. As if the years of her siblings running and spilling their food on it had never happened.
Y/n jolted upright. How did she get here? Wasn't she just on the battlefield?
She looked around, spotting their small but sturdy dining table in a different spot than she was used to.
There sat two women. One looked exactly like her, but she was slightly taller and had a bit more of a mature face. It's how she'd imagine herself if she were about half a decade older.
Next to her look-alike was someone who looked exactly like her mother. This couldn't be the afterlife, right?
"Took you long enough."
"Huh?"
The woman who looked just like she did scoffed a bit, "What are you waiting for? Come and sit. You're wasting precious time."
"O-oh... sorry..." Y/n got up as quickly as she could, moving toward the table to sit down cross-legged across from the two women.
"Don't mind her, she just doesn't like to wait on others." The woman who looked like her mother also sounded like her.Â
Hearing that voice after so many years since she's seen her face-to-face made tears fall from her eyes.
"Don't cry like a baby! You're my descendant! Grow up!"
"Hey, hey, don't get mad at her, it's been a while since she's seen me, you know."
Y/n looked up at the woman. She was her mother... it had to be her!
"M-mom?" She went to wipe some of the tears clouding her vision.
"It's good to see you, honey."
The young h/c haired girl let out a small sob, half of sorrow, half of joy.
"I'm not dead yet, right?" She said, between quiet sobbing.
"You're halfway there. But that's beside the point. You shouldn't worry about it."
"Huh...!? Halfway!?"
The woman who looked just like her huffed, "I said don't worry about that! You're gonna go back to the real world, you just need to heal your spirit first!"
"What do you mean?"
She sighed, pointing accusingly, "You weren't using Psyche properly! You used them with the wrong breathing! So it's damaged your spirit!"
"Psyche... Right... What even is Psyche?"
The older h/c haired woman got an irritated expression on her face, "You mean you don't even know what it is, you little brat!?"
"Was I supposed to?"
The woman looked over at her mother with a look of betrayal, "You did a terrible job teaching her, M/n!"
"I never got the chance to. I died before I could ever bring it up." Her mother looked solemn for a moment before smiling back at Y/n, "I'm sorry I never told you about demons... or that I helped slay them. I was going to do it on your eighteenth birthday, but I never got to live to see that day."
Y/n looked down at her lap, not knowing what to say.
"Fine. Enough of that." The woman rolled her eyes, "To put it simply, Psyche is a technique I developed to expand your thinking and increase your strength tenfold."
"Expand my thinking?"
"Like Ultra Vision, for example, it lets you see your opponent's attacks, right? That's because your mind can calculate their moves at a high speed from the smallest of movements with this ability."
"So that's how that works?"
The woman let out an even deeper sigh, "You're lucky we're related, otherwise I'd send you flying right now."
Y/n just stared at her; their resemblance was kind of weirding her out.
"Why do you look like me?"
The older woman scoffed, "For one, you look like me." She tapped her leg impatiently, "There's no point in talking about this, I'm your ancestor, simple as that. Now focus on fixing your spirit."
Y/n seemed confused, "But how do I do that?"
Her mother spoke calmly, "Focus on happy memories. Focus on those you love more than anything. Focus on your breathing."
For a moment, Y/n didn't know what exactly to do. M/n gestured for her to lie down.
She did as such, closing her eyes to focus on her breathing.
Memories of her life before demons existed to her, thoughts of Tanjiro and Nezuko flooded her mind. Their happy faces made her smile, too.
Then her thoughts shifted to Zenitsu and Inosuke. She hadn't known them for very long, but she enjoyed the time she spent with both of them.
Giyu was the next person she thought of. If it weren't for him, her and Tanjiro would never have become demon slayers. While she wasn't sure what he thought of her, Y/n felt a bit of hope that he thought of her as a friend.
Next was Shinobu, who helped heal her from her injuries. The other little butterfly girls sprang to mind as well. Thanks to them, Kanao, and Aoi, she was stronger than before.
Rengoku was last. She had known him for the least amount of time, but she liked him a lot. His smile was reassuring and made her feel at ease.
Her mind started to drift away, her breathing calm and steady.
A few moments passed with her relaxing.
Until everything faded into nothing, and she woke up in a hospital bed.

But there was something about the smile you had racing up to him that made Venti nervous

But least of all, it was very clearly a declaration of love from the crew member, his eyes staring into yours with expectancy, awaiting a response
Kazuha's feet moved on their own, taking your hand in his and leading you away without a word
Both you and the crew member were shocked by the sudden appearance, but while the other man stood silent and flabbergasted, you simply smiled at seeing his familiar face
Once you were a fair distance away, you thanked him for getting you out of that awkward situation
He only had one response, a light dusting of pink on his cheeks
"Forgive my rudeness, I... didn't wish for you to be striken by such abysmal verses. If I may, could I recite my own declaration for your heart?"

Y/n smiled down at her baby brother, "Sure, maybe we can do that tomorrow."
B/n pumped his fist up as he cheered, "Heck yeah!"

They all started to laugh, while B/n pouted.

Her eyes widened at the voice in her head.
"Y/n? Is everything okay? Did you see a ghost?" B/n asked.

Blade? Since when did she have a blade? She's never held one before. The only sword she knew about was the katana under Mom's side of the bed.
Realization hit her hard. The sheath of her sword wobbled a bit as she hastily stood up.
"Y/n...! What are you-"
She couldn't look at them. Not if she wanted to get out of here.
The h/c haired girl raced out of their home, hearing their cries for her, making her heart ache.
But she couldn't go back. This wasn't real. This is all she wanted, but it wasn't reality.
Y/n huffed a bit, landing in the snow, her stomach feeling like an empty pit.
The life she once had is gone forever. This was something she had no control over. But now, she had to return to the life she had made for herself. With Tanjiro, Nezuko, Inosuke, and Zenitsu.
The voice said to slit my throat... so...
She took a sharp inhale and sliced herself with the jade katana.
A gasp escaped her throat as she jolted awake.
"Y/n!!" She turned to the voice and saw Tanjiro.
Tears brimmed in the corners of his eyes as he smiled down at her, "You're awake! Thank goodness!"
"I'm glad you're awake too, Tanjiro." She smiled right back at him. Slowly, she stood up from the bench, noticing that Rengoku was lying where Tanjiro had once sat.
"I don't have time to explain much, but a demon put us to sleep. I think they're on top of the train."
Y/n glanced at Rengoku, Inosuke, and Zenitsu, who all stayed asleep before finally looking at Nezuko, who stood near Tanjiro, "Nezuko, try to wake everyone up, okay?"Â
She faced Tanjiro again, "Let's head toward the demon; hopefully, we can take them out quickly enough."
Tanjiro nodded and led her to the window of the cart they were in.
A look outside the window let her know that they had to be careful when getting onto the roof.
"Give me a boost, 'kay?"
Tanjiro nodded and placed his hands in front of the window, ready to help her up.
Y/n stepped on his cupped hands as he lifted her into the air. She grabbed onto the cart, vaulted, and then landed on the roof.
Tanjiro then swung himself onto the roof, giving her a curt nod, signaling that he was ready for battle.
They raced on top of the cars, the wind blowing in their faces. Y/n's h/l (Hair Length) h/c hair flowed behind her, pushing back her bangs as she ran.
It wasn't long until they reached a black-haired demon with square markings under his eyes. The pair stopped once he turned around to smile at them.
"Oh? Are you awake? Good morning!" He waved at them, "You could've slept some more, you know?"
The demon chuckled lightly as if amused by their consciousness, "I showed you an especially nice dream there. Next time, I should show you a dream where your entire family is slaughtered. Wouldn't that be nice?"
She felt the anger in her rise. Y/n quickly unsheathed her sword, "Don't thoughtlessly trample your way into people's dreams!"
This demon only smiled back in response, "The e/c-eyed girl and the boy with the earrings. You both came straight to me. How wonderful."
Y/n didn't want to waste much more time. Her feet practically danced as she prepared her form.
Water Breathing | Tenth Form: Constant Flux
She made her move, but the demon simply held out his hand, facing the back of it toward her.
Before she could get close enough to attack, a mouth sprouted and whispered something.
"Go to sleep."
"Why didn't you save us?" Visions of her brother and sister appeared before her.
Their angry expressions ate away at her, "What were you doing when we were dying?"
Guilt coursed through her veins.
"Why are you even here? You're useless." Her mother looked at her with a disapproving gaze.
Her father looked down at her, his face carrying an annoyed look, "You should have been the one who died. How dare you live so cheerfully."
The nightmare tore at her, but she had to know it wasn't real.
Y/n woke up with a start, preparing her blade, "My family would never say that! No matter what!" She was closing in on the demon, "Don't insult my family!!"
In a split-second move, she cut off the demon's head.
After taking a breath, she glanced over and saw Tanjiro slumped on top of the cart, slowly waking up after the last attack.
It wasn't until she heard a crackling sound that she looked and saw the demon's head connecting to the train.
"My Master told me to kill the boy with the earrings... bring him the girl with the e/c eyes... and defeat a Hashira. This is going to be a lot harder than I thought..."
He's not dying!?
"My, your expression is lovely. I want to see that face of yours twisted in anguish." He let out an ugly laugh, "You want me to tell you why I won't die even though you cut my head off? It's so simple, even a baby can understand."
He chuckled again, "That's not my actual body anymore. And the same goes for this form that's speaking right now. I'm just taking the shape of a head, but I'm not a head. While you were snoring away peacefully... I fused with the train!"
An expression of pure horror crossed both Y/n's and Tanjiro's faces.
The demon laughed, "The looks on your faces... Good, good, you understand? So basically... all two hundred passengers on this train are now food to further strengthen my body. As well as my captives. Can you protect them? Just the two of you? Can you delay me at all? Hmm?"
Tanjiro made a slice towards the head, but it simply sank into the train.
"Crap...!" Y/n fell to the ground, frustrated.
"Don't worry, we'll figure something out!" Tanjiro put a gentle hand on her shoulder to reassure her.
Then, they heard a rumbling, and Inosuke burst from the train.
"Comin' Through!! That is the way of Lord Inosuke!"
Tanjiro started to shout, "Inosuke! This train is no longer safe! Protect those who are sleeping!! This whole train turned into a demon!"
Inosuke stared at the pair, a loud laugh coming from his throat, "I knew it, just like I thought! So that means I was right, and I'm the boss!"
The boar started to wave his swords frantically until they were pointed at Y/n, "Bug Eyes, you're second in command, ya hear!? The boss's right-hand woman!"
Y/n looked a bit confused but nodded, "Right... we need to help the passengers. Let's do that, yeah?"
He let out an excited howl, then cut into the train where he was standing, tearing at the ceiling, revealing the passengers being slowly eaten by the train. Inosuke cut away at the growths around the unsuspecting traingoers.
"I'm gonna save every single one of them! Worship me, dammit!!!"
Y/n and Tanjiro also got to work, slicing at the demon parts on the train that were trying to eat them.
They heard a loud hum coming from behind them.
"It seems like things took a turn while I was having my nap!! As a Hashira, I'm ashamed of myself! I want to crawl into a hole!"
The loud shout was followed by the train rocketing forward, sending her and Tanjiro flying.
When Y/n looked over her shoulder, she saw Rengoku!
"L/n and Kamado Boy!" He loomed over them, "This train is made up of eight cars! I'll protect the back five! The yellow boy and the Kamado Girl will protect the other three. You two and the boar will go for the demon's neck!"
Y/n looked shocked, "Neck!? But now the demons-"
Rengoku got incredibly close to her face, a little bit of a sparkle in his eyes, "It doesn't matter what they look like, as long as they're a demon, they'll have a neck!" He then took a step back and launched himself to the next car.
So that rocking was Rengoku... I barely even saw him move! Wait, this isn't the time to be impressed! We gotta find Inosuke!
"Inosuke! Where are you!?" Y/n shouted, taking off in a run with Tanjiro.
"Up here, Bug Eyes! Feast your eyes on the boss!"
His voice was coming from above, so they climbed back on top of the cars.
"This demon must have a weak spot somewhere. My guess is that it's up front! That's where its scent is strongest!" Tanjiro yelled, running alongside Y/n and Inosuke.
Y/n started to run faster, "Then let's go to the front!!"
It didn't take long to reach the coal-burning area.
Inosuke ran ahead, landing in the area where the conductor was.
"Who are you!? G-get out now!"
It seems like Inosuke wasn't really listening to the man; he was more focused on the growths coming right for him. Hands sprouted from the fleshy blobs, reaching for Inosuke.
He sliced at a few of them, but the demon got past most of his strikes.
Water Breathing | Sixth Form: Whirlpool
Y/n managed to sever the arms before they could do any damage to Inosuke.
Tanjiro started to call out, "The demon's weak point is right below us! We need to attack it now!"
"Don't tell me what to do! I'm the boss around here!!"
Inosuke then sliced at the cart, revealing a large neck bone.
They didn't want to waste another second. Tanjiro made a move to cut the bone in half, but the fleshy arms got in the way, giving the demon ample time to regenerate.
It regenerates too quickly! We need to work together!
"Tanjiro! Inosuke! We have to use our attacks at once! One will slice the flesh, and the rest will cut down the bone, okay!?"
"Good work, right-hand woman! I'll give you some praise!"
"Right, thank you! Here we go!"
But before they could attack, eyes grew from the meat blob. With one single look, it put them all to sleep.
Thankfully, it seemed the other two knew the technique for getting themselves out of the never-ending dream.
They were able to slice back at the growths, but they had more to worry about.
The conductor rushed toward Inosuke, a small blade in his hand, ready to pierce his side.
Without even thinking, Y/n raced to get in between Inosuke and the conductor.
He stabbed into her, blood soaking through the material of her corps uniform.
"Y/n!!" Tanjiro shouted, clambering over to get closer. He quickly knocked out the conductor, albeit a little rougher than he should have.
"I'm fine! We have to cut the demon's neck now! The others won't last forever!"
They both gave her a quick nod.
Inosuke sliced open the train, while Tanjiro and Y/n cut the demon's neck.
The two of them managed to cut the entire head of the train off, but it released a horrible screech, the train tremoring off of the track.
They were falling sideways and fast. They had to do something or else-
Crap!
Her side throbbed a bit, making her utter a grunt of pain.
"Hey! Are you alright!?" Inosuke took a step closer to her, but she held up her hand.
"I'm fine, Inosuke! Both of you, protect the passen-"
The train shook again, everything was tilted on its side, and the demon's body fell from the tracks.
She landed with a hard thud. A groan escaped her lips as she slowly tried to get up.
Tanjiro and Inosuke ran towards her as soon as they landed, the latter reaching her side first.
"Keep it together! You saved me when I was tangled up in demon flesh, now it's my turn!" He shook her a bit, trying to get her to sit up.
"Inosuke, don't move her too harshly! It won't help her wound!" Tanjiro sat next to her side, a comforting hand keeping her straight.
"What do you mean!? I'm helping!!!"
"Hey... please... don't argue."
The two of them ceased their little fight, both of them not liking how weak her voice sounded.
"Can you make sure the conductor's okay?"
"But... he stabbed you..." Inosuke sounded a little huffy at the thought of saving the guy who just hurt his right-hand woman, "His leg is crushed anyway... he won't live!"
"He's had enough hardship... please, go save him."
Tanjiro looked at Inosuke, and they both nodded, slowly and gently lowering Y/n til she was flat on the ground. The pair then went to save as many passengers as possible.
Dawn.... it'll be dawn soon... I need to stabilize my breathing... then help the injured.
Everyone, please, be okay...
A head popped into her vision, startling her for a moment, "So you can use Total Concentration Breathing: Constant, that's very impressive, L/n!"
Her eyes widened a bit, "Rengoku..."
"Doing it all day is taking one step closer to becoming a Hashira!" He smiled brightly at her, "It might take about ten thousand steps to reach Hashira level, though!"
She smiled back at him, "I'll do my best."
"You're bleeding from the abdomen, L/n. Focus some more and raise the accuracy of your breaths. Spread it to every part of your body."
Y/n did as told, focusing her breathing, doing her best to do as he said.
Rengoku continued to coach her through it, "There's a blood vessel, and it's broken. Focus some more."
She could feel it. She could feel the way her blood was flowing through her.
"There, stop the bleeding. Stop the hemorrhage."
Y/n kept trying, gritting her teeth a bit at the effort.
The flame-haired man lightly tapped her forehead, leaning over her to fully meet her e/c eyes, "Focus."
She continued for a few moments before the pain started to fade away slowly.
"You stopped it!" His eyes sparkled at her, "If you master your breathing, you'll be able to accomplish various things. It's not like you can do everything, but you can get stronger compared to how you were the day before."
"Thank you... Rengoku."
He smiled at her, "You did well, L/n."
A loud boom was heard a little bit away from the train. Y/n did her best to look, but her position wasn't exactly the best for seeing what was going on.
She craned her neck to get a glimpse, her eyes widening at the sight.
Before them was a demon. One with pink hair, an open vest, and dark tattoos of stripes across his entire body.

Y/n listened half heartily, thinking about the technique she used against the spider demon Rui.
She wanted to know more about what the voice in her had called Psyche. She had no idea where to look for the answers. But she had a vague memory of her mother talking about-

"Huh?" Y/n whipped her head toward Tanjiro's voice. He was standing up and halfway out the door.
"Aren't you coming? We have to say goodbye to everyone and then see the Flame Hashira..."
"You finished talking...?"
A worried expression crossed his face, "Are you alright, Y/n? You've been spacing out so much lately..."
A silence stood between them until Shinobu broke it.
"Tanjiro, can I have a moment with Y/n?"
"..." He thought for a moment before nodding, "Alright. I'll leave you be."Â
With a frown on his face, he did as he said he would.
"Y/n... something's been on your mind, yes?"
Y/n started to sweat; Shinobu looked really serious.
"W-well..."
Shinobu's smile turned to a thin line, "It's best not to hide things that bother you. Especially from your friends."
The h/c haired girl looked down at her lap, "I..."
"Y/n." That no-nonsense tone told her she had to talk.
The girl sighed, "I did something... that I didn't know I could do on Mount Natagumo. And I'm just trying to think about how I did it..."
Shinobu furrowed her brows, "What did you do?"
"When I thought I was about to die fighting against that spider demon, a voice came into my head... saying something about my mind being a palace... And to use my Psyche. Then I could see the attacks coming in slow motion."
The other girl was silent for a moment before finally saying something, "I'm not sure what that could mean... but I can do some research from here if you'd like. Psyche... sounds slightly familiar, but I can't quite place it."
Y/n's eyes widened, "Really? You'd do that for me?"
She smiled back at her, "I'm not just doing it for you. A technique like that could also help the Corps."
A flush came across her cheeks, "R-right, sorry..."
Then a soft and delicate hand clasped onto hers, "But I'd be lying if I said you weren't an important factor."
Y/n started to laugh, "If you say so... thank you, Shinobu, I really appreciate it."
With that, Y/n started to get up and leave, barely hearing Shinobu's last words.
"Be careful."
"Is that so? Are you leaving already? Our time together was short, but it was great to be able to share it with you. Good luck." Aoi hung up some sheets as she spoke her goodbye to Y/n.
"Thank you, Aoi. You took care of us even when you were busy... Thanks to you, we can fight again!" Y/n smiled brightly, not seeing the slight bit of hesitation in Aoi's eyes.
"Compared to you guys, I'm not doing much, so there's no need for thanks. I'm a wimp who just got lucky in the selections and survived. I couldn't go back into battle afterwards because I was afraid..."
Y/n looked at her blankly before laughing a bit, "That has nothing to do with it. You're already a part of the fight because you helped all of us. I'll take your emotions into the battle with me. If I get injured again, I'll be in your care!" She dashed away, not seeing the effect her words had on Aoi.
"Hey! There you are, Kanao! I wanted to say my goodbyes!" Y/n said, waving as she walked up to the black-haired girl.
Kanao simply smiled back at her, not saying a word.
"We're gonna depart now. Thank you for everything." Y/n sat next to her, "You're amazing. We were in the same final selection, but you're already a tsuguko! We're gonna do our best too!"
Kanao still didn't say anything, but she pulled out a small coin and flipped it into the air, letting it land on her palm with a resounding smack of her hand. When it landed on the tail side, she finally turned to Y/n.
"I just followed my teacher's orders. There's no reason to give me thanks, so goodbye."
She spoke!
"What did you flip just now?"
"Goodbye."
"What's that?"
"Goodbye."
"Is it money? There are heads and tails on it... Why did you flip it? It turns around a lot."
Kanao looked down at the coin, "I decided to flip this when I'm not being instructed. I decided whether I should talk to you or not. Heads means I won't talk, and tails means I will talk. It was tails, so I talked. Goodbye."
Y/n cocked her head to the side, "Why can't you decide on your own?"
She faced forward, "It doesn't matter. None of this matters. So I can't decide anything on my own."
The h/c haired girl frowned, "I don't think there's anything in this world that's not worth caring about. I'm sure you have a small voice in your heart, Kanao, but it's important to abide by your orders too..."Â
She finally smiled again, "Could I borrow that?"
Kanao hesitantly handed her the coin.
Y/n then ran toward the outside part of the engawa and shouted, "Alright, I'll settle this through a flip!"
"Settle what?"
"About whether or not, from now on, you'll listen to your own heart, Kanao!" She flipped the coin into the air, "Heads!! I call heads!! If it lands on heads, you'll live by what your heart desires, Kanao!"
It landed on her hand, and she slowly revealed it to be heads. She let out a little giggle, then handed it back to Kanao, "People are driven by their hearts. So please listen to what yours says, Kanao!" Y/n then started to walk away, satisfied with the outcome.
"Why... why did it come out as heads?"
Y/n smiled cheerfully, "It was by chance. Besides, if it were tails, I planned to flip it more times until it landed on heads. Stay healthy!" She walked around the corner of the building, waving one last time.
"So this is the train where the Flame Hashira's at?" Y/n mumbled to herself.
Inosuke started to tremble, "This thing is the master of the land, yeah... it controls the land! There's no mistaking its length and intimidating aura. It may be sleeping now, but don't let your guard down!!"
Zenitsu rolled his eyes, "No, it's a steam engine. Don't you know about it?"
The boar shushed Zenitsu, "Calm down!!"
"You calm down, idiot boar."
"I'll go on the attack first!!" Inosuke wasn't listening.
Tanjiro seemed to be taking him seriously, "Who knows, it might be the lord of this land. So it may not be a good idea to suddenly attack it."
Zenitsu stared at Tanjiro with irritation, "No, I'm telling you, it's a steam engine. Do you know what a train is? It's a vehicle. It carries people. Country bumpkins..."
Y/n stared at the three boys, holding in her laugh. Her mother had told her of trains and how they could carry hundreds at once. This was her first time seeing one in person. It was huge!
Her thoughts were interrupted by Inosuke ramming his head into the side of the train, yelling wildly.
"Stop! You're embarrassing us!" Zenitsu tried to pull the boar away, doing his best not to cause a scene.
A few men in uniforms came rushing through, blowing a whistle at them, "What are you four doing!?" They noticed their nichirin blades, "They have swords! Call the police!"
That wasn't good. Zenitsu took hold of the group and dashed onto the train.Â
After taking a breath, Zenitsu started to speak, "We demon slayers are part of an organization that isn't officially recognized by the government. We can't walk around with our swords so out in the open. Even if you talk about demons, they won't believe you anyway."
Y/n sighed, "Sad, but that's just how it is, I guess..."
"Let's just hide our swords on our backs for now."
After doing that, Tanjiro pulled out a slip of paper that the crow had given him, "They call it the Infinity Train. If we ride it, we should be able to meet Mr Rengoku. It seems he's already boarded."
Zenitsu nodded, "I'll buy tickets then. So just stay here."
Y/n smiled, "Got it. Thanks, Zenitsu!"
The blond flushed a bit, squirming around and being grateful for the thanks.
A few moments later, Zenitsu was back with the tickets. He handed one to each of them, but held onto Inosuke's since he figured that the boar would eat it or lose it somehow.
Zenitsu poked Y/n's shoulder, "You said this Rengoku is a Hashira, right? Do you know what he looks like?"
"He has really flashy hair, you can't miss him." Y/n was then startled by an ear-piercing shout.
"Tasty!"
The hell?

Wait, that voice, it's Rengoku!

They walked toward the voice, seeing the man with flame-like hair.
Y/n wanted to laugh a bit at the ridiculous shouting but held it in.

"We got that part..." Y/n smiled at him, "Can we sit?"

"O-okay!" Y/n did as such, with Tanjiro taking the seat across from her.
"Mr Rengoku... we're here on a mission, more people have gone missing on this train, so we came to help."
"I see! Very nice!"
Rengoku stared at her for a moment, then spoke, "Your words at the meeting kept me thinking!"
"Huh? Is there a reason why?"
"You were in a stressful situation, no? Yet you were calm and rational when speaking to us. I'd like to take you on as a tsuguko!"
"Oh...?"
He turned to Tanjiro, "You as well. You headbutted Shinazugawa very well! I see potential in both of you!" He then faced Y/n again, "I sense a lot of strength coming from you. What breathing style do you use?"
"Oh! Water Breathing! Tanjiro uses it, too!"
"What color are your blades?"
Tanjiro was the first to answer, "Mine's black."
Rengoku laughed, "That's tough. I've never seen a Hashira with a black blade." He looked back at Y/n, "What about you?"
"Well, mine's a deep jade color."
He seemed thoughtful, "Jade...? Jade... I've never heard of a jade blade before."
"Really?" Y/n stared down at her lap, "I've never really thought about it prior..."
Haganezuka said something about it, too. Is it really that strange?
Her thoughts were interrupted by Inosuke's shouts.
"It's so fast!" He leaned out the window, half of his body hanging loose.
Zenitsu tugged on his arm, doing his best to pull him back inside the train, "That's dangerous, moron!"
Inosuke wasn't really paying any attention to the blond, "I'm gonna get out and run! We'll race to see which one is faster!!"
"There's got to be a limit to your stupidity!!"
Rengoku laughed a bit, "Don't do that, you never know when the demon's gonna appear!"
"HUH!?" Zenitsu let go of Inosuke and leaned over to Rengoku, "You're kidding, a demon's gonna appear on this train!?"
"It will!"
"So we're not going to a place with demons, but one's gonna show up here!? I can't take this! I'm getting off!!!"
Rengoku, still smiling, spoke calmly, "In a short period of time, more than 40 people have disappeared on this train! We sent several swordsmen, but none of them ever reported back! So that's why I'm here as a Hashira!"
"I'm getting off!"
Then, a man in a conductor's uniform shambled through the cart they were in.
"I will look at your tickets."
Y/n looked up at him in surprise. His face looked hollow, like he hadn't eaten in a while.
"What's that?" Tanjiro asked.
"The conductor is coming around to confirm your tickets and punch holes in them." Rengoku held up his ticket to the conductor, letting him punch a hole in it.
Something's not right...
She turned to Rengoku, but he was already standing up, displaying his katana.
"Conductor! It's dangerous, so stand down! It's an emergency, so I would prefer it if you don't ask me why I have a sword on me!"
Further down in the cart, a demon had appeared. Spikes were protruding out of its body, and a low growl was coming from it.
"Big guy! You were using a blood demon art, weren't you? You kept your presence hidden well. However, if you bare your fangs at sinless people. My sword will burn you down to the bone!"
The demon moved to strike a bystander, but Rengoku was faster.
Flame Breathing | First Form: Unknowing Fire
He slashed the demon in two in a matter of seconds.
The other demon slayers looked on in amazement.
Tanjiro had tears in his eyes, "That was awesome! Amazing swordsmanship! Make me your disciple!"
"Sure thing!! I'll make you into a fine swordsman!"
The other two boys joined in, asking to be disciples.
Y/n gazed at her friends with a smile on her face. Her eyes caught on to Rengoku's, who was staring right at her.
She grinned at him, silently letting him know she wanted to be trained by him, too.
His grin widened, happy that she was willing to be his student.
Everyone seemed to be joyful, dancing around a bit as the demon disintegrated. It was a happy moment. With everyone smiling.
And before she knew it, she was asleep.

"Pardon the intrusion." The corps member dressed in all black carried Tanjiro on his back and called out when they entered the butterfly mansion.
"Looks like nobody's coming out at all." He sighed, "Let's check the garden."
They walked to the garden, searching for someone to get permission to enter.
Y/n glanced over at Tanjiro, "Are you alright?"
"Not really..."
Before he could say anything else, the member in all black huffed, "You can walk on your own, man, like she is."
"I'm sorry, my whole body hurts... a lot."
The other corps member scoffed and mumbled something about Tanjiro being an old man. Y/n was glad that she was healthy enough to walk on her own, but this guy didn't have to be so rude to Tanjiro.

"Five times!? I'm drinking this five times!? In one day!? Am I gonna continue drinking this medicine for three months!? If I drink this, I can't eat any food!? It's too bitter! Are you sure this will cure me!?"
That voice... it was so shrill and panicky, it had to be Zenitsu.
A small girl with a butterfly clip in her hair had a pleading look on her face, "Please be quiet..."

"Zenitsu...!" Y/n called out, a relieved smile coming across her pretty face.
The boy turned in her direction. And once he caught sight of her, he nearly jumped for joy.
"Y/n-chan!!!!" He leaped out of bed and wrapped his arms around her waist, sobbing into her uniform, "They're so mean here! Please! Save me!"
"U-uhm..." Y/n looked over at the girl who had led them there. She held a shocked expression on her features, "Zenitsu... why don't you take the medicine? For me?"
He perked up, "As long as you marry me, Y/n-chan!!"
She sweat dropped, "We'll talk about that later, okay? Just take your medicine..."
Zenitsu went to the stand next to his bed and chugged the medicine, "There! Now marry me, Y/n!!"
"Later... We'll talk about it later, Zenitsu..." Y/n looked over at the girl again, who seemed to be sighing in relief. She smiled at her and then turned back to the blond, "Do you know where Inosuke is, Zenitsu?"
"Inosuke? He's right there..."
Y/n glanced over to the bed next to Zenitsu and spotted Inosuke solemnly lying there, his mask morphed into one of depression.
"Inosuke! I'm glad you're alright! I'm sorry I wasn't able to help you...!"
In a soft voice, Inosuke uttered, "I'm fine... don't worry about me..."
His voice... Is that actually Inosuke?
Zenitsu shuffled back into his bed, "I think the girls said his throat got crushed or something."
Y/n's eyebrows lifted in worry, "Really...? That must have hurt..."
"I dunno the details, but I hear his neck nearly got smashed... So then in the end, he let out a really loud scream, but that clinched it, so now his throat's messed up bad."
The conversation went on for a while, but something was nagging at the back of Y/n's mind.
"Y/n...?"
"H-huh!?"
It was Tanjiro. He had a worried look on his face as the kakushi lowered him onto a bed, "You spaced out... is everything okay?"
She dismissively waved her hand, "Don't worry. Just lost in thought."
He frowned, "Are you sure?"
"Yeah. I'm okay, Tanjiro."
Tanjiro held his worried expression while looking at her, but he decided not to push it.
After a few weeks, their healing process was going along smoothly.
"How are you all feeling?" Shinobu, the Hashira who brought them here, walked into the room and beamed down at them at their bedside.Â
"I'm getting better..." Tanjiro smiled, "Thank you so much."
"I'm feeling better, too. The medicine is working wonders."
Shinobu smiled brighter, "That's good to hear. So now, let's go into our rehabilitation training!"
Y/n cocked her head to the side, "Huh? What's that?"
And thus began the troubles of rehabilitation.
The girl with the pigtails was named Aoi, and she was about to explain the training to Y/n, Tanjiro, and Inosuke. Zenitsu hadn't recovered enough to join them.
"First, over there, those girls will stretch out your body, which is stiff from lying in bed." She pointed to the three small butterfly girls who were waiting next to some mats on the floor of the training room.
"Then, the reflex training." She pointed to Kanao, who was by a small table with multiple cups of tea sitting on it, "There's a medicated brew inside those teacups. You'll be trying to throw the tea onto the other person, but if you can hold the teacup down from your opponent before she lifts it, she can't move the teacup."
"The final one is whole body training. Putting it frankly, it's tag. Kanao and I will be your opponents."
Y/n got a determined look on her face, she was ready to face them and win and ready to get back into action.
The results weren't pretty.
Y/n had managed the stretching with the girls. It hurt like hell, but she got through it. The reflex training wasn't too much better; she was able to win against Aoi, but Kanao was a different story. She just couldn't touch a single hair on her head. It went about the same with the full body training, she won against Aoi but not Kanao.
Tanjiro and Inosuke didn't fare much better; they both lost every time as well.
This lasted for weeks, until Zenitsu joined them. He was also able to win against Aoi and lost to Kanao.
It wasn't long until it was only Tanjiro and Y/n. Since Inosuke and Zenitsu were tired of losing to the girls.
Another day, another splash of medicine in the face...
Y/n sighed, trailing behind Tanjiro, too tired to try and keep up.

The girls pulled two towels from behind their backs, "Towels... for both of you!"
Y/n smiled brightly, "Thank you! This is very sweet of you!" She started to dab at her hair, drying it at a quick pace.
Tanjiro thanked them as well, drying himself with the towel.
"Y/n, Tanjiro, can you do the total concentration breathing all day and all night?"
They both gave the girls a questioning stare.
"Morning, afternoon, evening, do you always do your total concentration breathing while you're sleeping?"
Y/n seemed a bit shocked, "No, I don't... I've never done that before. Is that even possible?"
The girls nodded, "Yes, there's a big difference between those who can do it and those who can't."
Tanjiro looked a bit pale, "It's really tough to use the total concentration even for just a short moment... to do that all day..."
"There are people who can already do it! Like the Hashira and Miss Kanao. Please, try hard!"
Y/n nodded, "I'll give it my all!"
She was going to die. That she was sure of. This breathing, this pain in her lungs, was going to be her demise.
Y/n heaved a bit. She had to try harder. Maybe running throughout the estate would help expand her lungs. She had to keep moving, even if it hurt.
Later, she was sitting next to Tanjiro, and the girls had brought them rice balls to eat. They also set down some gourds.
"I'm sorry... we have to blow into these?"
"Yes, when Kanao was being trained, Shinobu often made her blow into a gourd."
Y/n tilted her head. There had to be more than just blowing into it for fun, right?
"That's an interesting thing to do. Does it make a funny sound or something?" Y/n finished her rice ball and wiped some excess rice from her face.
The girls smiled up at her, "No, she made her blow into the gourd to destroy it!"

It was days later, no success in destroying the gourds or doing the total concentration breathing day and night.
Her stamina had come back in full, and her lungs had gotten stronger. But it was best not to rush it.
Y/n sat atop the roof of the butterfly mansion, doing her best to focus on her breathing. With her eyes closed, she felt at least some peace.
She was so focused that she didn't hear someone calling out to her.
"You're trying hard there." Y/n turned her head to see it was Shinobu talking to her, "Even though your two friends went off somewhere else."
Her face was inches away from Y/n's. She could feel the heat rise in her cheeks. Soon, she backed away and sat next to Y/n.
"Are you lonely all by yourself?" Shinobu had a smile on her face, but Y/n could feel anger coming off of her.
"No, if I can do it, I can teach them how to do it too."
Silence stood between them before Shinobu finally spoke.
"You have a beautiful soul there."
Y/n didn't know what to say. It was long moments of silence before she figured out what to ask, "Shinobu... why did you bring us to this place?"
Shinobu was still smiling, "Everyone officially recognized Nezuko's existence... and you all were severely injured." She paused, "And then, I wanted to entrust my dream to you."
"Dream?"
She nodded, "Yes, a dream to get along with demons. I'm sure you can do it."
Y/n didn't speak for a moment, then she slowly mumbled, "Are you angry?"
Shinobu's eyes widen, more than Y/n had ever seen her do before. It was so unusual. Shinobu's thoughts ran a mile a minute. Did her mask slip?
"I'm sorry if I overstepped... but... I can feel the anger radiating off of you, even if you're smiling." Y/n started to sweat, worried that she had just insulted a Hashira.
"I... I guess so. I might usually be angry." She looked down, as if deeply contemplating, "From the moment my beloved sister got slaughtered by a demon... every time I saw the tears of the people whose loved ones were taken away by demons, every time I heard their shrieks of despair, the anger inside me grows and gets larger."
Y/n looked down at Shinobu's fist; it was clenched tightly.
"I have repulsive feelings that I can't do anything about in the deepest part of my body. I'm sure the other Hashira are similar. Now that they saw a demon who had never eaten a person, they're going to remember her. And I don't think anybody will lay a hand on her since the master is okay with it."
Shinobu paused again before finally saying something, "... My sister was a kind person like you. She sympathized with demons, and she felt sorry for them even on the verge of her own death. I could never think like that. Pity those who killed people? That's just crazy talk. But if that was how my sister felt, I had to follow in her footsteps. I will not let the smile my sister said she loved burn out. But... It's just a little tiring."
"Shinobu..." Y/n looked ahead, "I meant what I said in the meeting... I'm going to do whatever I can and defeat Muzan. He was the one who killed mine and Tanjiro's families and turned Nezuko into a demon. But... Those who are gone are never truly gone, ya know?"
Y/n looked down at her own hands, "As long as they occupy your mind, their memory lives on." She turned back to Shinobu at last, "I'll do my best. I'll stop him from making anyone else suffer." Y/n then beamed at Shinobu, "Those who led me to this point won't die in vain."
The black-to-purple-haired woman's mouth fell open slightly, but in the end, she smiled. A real, genuine smile.
"Thank you, Y/n." Shinobu felt a heat come to her cheeks, her eyes softening at the sight of Y/n's smiling face, "When I imagine you in my stead, I feel relieved. Do your best."
With that, she was gone.
I'll do it... I promise. I'll do whatever it takes to defeat him... and avenge everyone who's died.
"Naho, Kiyo, Sumi, I want you to help me out with my training. If I ever stop doing total concentration breathing while I'm asleep, beat me with these futon beaters!"
"Sure thing!" The girls smiled brightly, ready to help in any way they could.
They had to beat her multiple times throughout the next few nights.
Y/n was now able to break the gourds. She slowly worked up to bigger and bigger ones over the next few weeks.
At this time, she had finally gained the ability to break the biggest gourd possible. It shattered brilliantly, making all the little butterfly girls cheer.
Her next challenge was beating Kanao at tag.
The chasing was difficult at first, but she was gaining on Kanao! She could feel her muscles burning, but she couldn't lose focus, not now!
She inched closer until she was able to take hold of Kanao's wrist.
The butterfly girls, once again, cheered with joy.
It was reflex training next, and Y/n was doing well so far!
Y/n blocked Kanao's attempts at splashing her with the medicine. It was a back-and-forth for who knows how long, but after many blocks and thwarting, Y/n was able to get past her.
This medicine is really smelly... so if I splash her with it... I'd feel bad
Instead, Y/n placed the teacup on Kanao's head.
"She did it!!"
"Did she, though?"
"Placing it on her is the same thing as pouring it on her!!"
The girls and Y/n danced around a bit, happy that the training had paid off.
Then it came to teaching Tanjiro, Zenitsu, and Inosuke how to do the same. It didn't take long, and soon, they were all done with their training.
All they had to do now was wait for Tanjiro and Inosuke's reforged swords.
"Tanjiro! Inosuke! Your blades are coming!" Y/n leaned on the doorway of the training room where Tanjiro was blowing into a gourd, and Inosuke was balancing on a pot.
"You serious, Bug Eyes!?"
"Yep! The crow just said so!" Y/n smiled as Inosuke started to rush out the door.
Tanjiro also stopped what he was doing and thanked her as he ran by.
Y/n slowly followed behind the pair of excited boys. Only to see Haganezuka racing around Tanjiro, chasing him with a sharp knife.
"How dare you break my blade! Damn you! Damn yoooouuuuuuuuuu!!!"
Haganezuka started to shake with rage, thrusting the knife toward Tanjiro, almost slicing him at certain points.
"I-i'm sorry! But I was actually gonna die! My opponent was super strong!" Tanjiro started to wave his hands around frantically, arguing his point.
"Like that has anything to do with it! It's your fault! Everything's your fault!" He poked Tanjiro's cheek rather harshly, "The blade broke because you're a weakling! That has to be why my blade broke!! I'll kill you!"
"Uhm... Haganezuka...? Maybe-"
"L/n... L/n! You'd never break one of my precious blades, now would you!? You respect them! You love them! Your beautiful jade blade!"
"Ah... yes, can you stop trying to kill Tanjiro?"
He didn't say anything in return; he just clasped his hands and danced around a bit.
"Sorry about him." Another man with a similar mask walked up to them, "Haganezuka is a very passionate person. He loves blades more than anyone else. Ah, my name is Kanamori, pleasure to meet you all."
They sat on the engawa, unsheathing their blades.
"I was told to forge blades for Lord Inosuke. I would be very happy if they were useful for him in battle."
Inosuke held up his blades, and they started to change to a grey color.
"Ah, they're beautiful. They glow with a dull indigo-grey tinge. A somber color. It's a great color for a blade."
Y/n smiled softly, "That's good. Inosuke's blades had so many chips..."
Kanamori started to get a little giddy, "What does it feel like to grip it? This is the first time I actually made a blade for someone who dual-wields."
Inosuke didn't say anything; he just walked out to the yard and found a rock.
"Lord Inosuke?"
He then started to bang the rock against his newly forged blades.
Y/n could only look on in horror as Tanjiro had to hold Kanamori back from strangling Inosuke.
It was certainly eventful.
