I remember the moment I fell in love with you

The first time I pressed my feet against you - 

heard whispers of comfort with each step.


My hands listened as they rested on you and the roughness of your texture 

they drew my eyes up towards the sky and I breathed in your grandeur

I borrowed the strength and confidence you offered me.

I wondered then if in three years the veil would lift 

and I’d see you as an illusion 

if the found confidence would be lost and leave only shame.


Did I find you in my fear? 

Or did you find me in my vulnerability?

One year later I went even higher - 

as high as I could  

because he lied about you 

and I didn’t trust her or myself

but at the top you gifted me greater confidence 

showed me solace in the vastness of your existence 

Brushed my hair with violent winds 

as I thanked your presence under my feet for keeping me grounded.

Seven years later I smile at the fear that you’d disappear 

when we’ve formed a deeper bond 

and I’ve witnessed you in full force.


Did you find me, 

or did I simply surrender? 

Did I surrender to your force 

or to a force within me?

How much of me do I leave with you in each step

How much of me do I gift you with each exclamation of joy and pain 

How much of you do I carry back with me on my skin 

How much of you do you gift me as you allow me in and bare my weight
