All the main DCMK ships are childhood-friends-to-lovers slowburn, but you have to recognize that they all come in different flavors. Ran and Shinichi have already fully realized their feelings for each other and would have likely started dating in a few months if not for outside forces interfering. Heiji and Kazuha have both created a fake sibling bond to hide their feelings from each other, completely unaware that the other could actually like them back. Kaito and Aoko are too busy rage-baiting and being rage-baited to even realize that they’re in love.

I love the idea of Conan taking a while to figure out Kid’s identity even after meeting Kaito, while Kaito meets Shinichi once and goes “ohhh okay I get it. That’s crazy.” Because Conan needs solid evidence to be sure of something like that and would probably be more distracted by the fact that this boy looks Exactly Like Him. But on the other hand Kaito deals with bullshit magic and science every day and could easily accept teenagers turning into children with zero proof.
