YOU'RE READY .

𝐁𝐈𝐋𝐋𝐘  𝐁𝐄𝐋𝐈𝐄𝐕𝐄𝐒  𝐓𝐇𝐈𝐒  𝐂𝐎𝐔𝐋𝐃  𝐒𝐓𝐈𝐋𝐋  𝐖𝐎𝐑𝐊  .     even  if  the  kitchen  looks  like  the  aftermath  of  a  food  war  ;  or  the  amount  of  spoons  he’s  used  &  thrown  into  the  sink  ,  only  to  need  another  spoon  ;  or  the  splatter  of  flour  and  batter  on  leila’s  gingerbread  man  pajamas  &  his  bare  chest  —–  he  was  going  to  make  his  wife  pancakes  for  breakfast  .  but  for  the  life  of  him  ,  billy  the  great  can’t  remember  a  vital  step  in  the  special     𝐇𝐎𝐏𝐄  𝐏𝐀𝐍𝐂𝐀𝐊𝐄  𝐑𝐄𝐂𝐈𝐏𝐄  .     he  sets  the  far  too  big  bowl  of  batter  in  front  of  leila  ,     ❛  baby  ,  you  know  if  mommy  puts  th’chocolate  chips  in  the  thing  now  or  when  they’re  on  the  stove  ?  ❜     she  shrugs  a  response  ,  already  picking  out  a  couple  of  chocolate  chips  for  herself  from  the  bag  .     you  should  just  ask  her  .     leila  suggests  .

&  𝐓𝐇𝐀𝐓'𝐒  𝐖𝐇𝐘  𝐇𝐄'𝐒  𝐓𝐈𝐏𝐓𝐎𝐄𝐈𝐍𝐆  𝐈𝐍𝐓𝐎  𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐈𝐑  𝐑𝐎𝐎𝐌  .     leaving  leila  to  watch  the  kitchen  :  to  make  sure  their  batter  doesn’t  just  jump  out  of  the  bowl  &  head  for  the  front  door  .  as  of   this  point  ,  they’ve  created  something  that’s  closer  to     𝐅𝐋𝐔𝐁𝐁𝐄𝐑     than  actual  pancake  mix  .  the  champ  won’t  bring  up  the  fact  that  they  used  a  box  mix  too  .  he  approaches  maureen’s  bedside  &  very  carefully  nudges  her  arm  with  a  section  of  his  hand  that  wasn’t  covered  in  pale  batter  .     ❛  mo  ,  baby  …  quick  question  .  when  y’make  pancakes  —  do  y’put  th’shit  —  th’chocolate chips  in  the  batter  thing  first  ,  or  do  y’put  them  in  when  the  pancake’s  on  th’stove  already  ?  ❜          (  @mohope  )

SLEEP IS A LUXURY NOT OFTEN AFFORDED       in a house that seemingly always needs to be up and out of the door before dawn. As the keeper of schedules, Maureen was typically the first up to ensure a smooth exit when they would all inevitably be rushing to get on their way.     (     There’s COMFORT in the chaos, a system to be found in juggling rehearsals and practices, training sessions and doctor’s appointments.     )     It’s a gift, then, to finally put black-out curtains to use as Maureen captures extra time in a bed that is nearly criminally comfortable.                  Today there is no where they need to BE, today sleep is blissfully afforded.
