A simple spell to ward off danger from a loved one.

What You Need:

A white candle

Pen and paper

Something that belongs to the person you are trying to protect (optional, but highly recommended

The Spell:

Light your candle and write the name of the intended person on the paper.

Focus on that person as you chant:

Dancing flame in front of me Keep this person safe as can be Protect (her/him/them) from any harm Keep (her/him/them) safe, keep (her/him/them) warm

Put the paper to the flame. Envision the warmth from the flame protecting the intended person, like a forcefield from harm.

If you have an object of theirs, hold it to you as the paper burns, breathing your energy into it.

Once the paper has burned completely, blow out your flame, and thank it for its warmth.

This face scrub is my own concoction and works better then any store bought face mask. You can save it in the fridge for up to two weeks or make a smaller fresh batch every time you feel your skin needs that extra pickup.

Things you will need:

Small air tight jar (if keeping longer then one use) or bowel

Tumbled rose quartz crystal - Self love

Parsley - Sacred to Venus and Aphrodite. Brightens skin and fights bacteria. 

Sugar - Drawing romance to you. Exfoliate agent.

Honey - Sweetens your appearance. Slows down ageing process. 

Olive oil - Sacred to Aphrodite. Moisturizes skin.

Lemon juice - Purifies your spell and pairs well with love spells. Clarifies the skin.

Rose petals - Symbol of love. Soothes irritation. 

Place rose petals into the bottom of your bowel or jar and set your rose quartz over top of them. Pour a small amount of each ingredient over the quartz, envisioning them pulling the self loving properties from the stone and into the scrub. Mix all ingredients together to form a thick paste. 

Massage over the face avoiding eyes and wash with a warm cloth. Then enjoy your smooth exfoliated skin!

Samhain is comiiiiiinggggg and i’m one excited witch!

Samhain (pronounced ‘sow-in’) is drawing very near, and as its my favorite holiday i can’t seem to make enough posts about it. It begins at midnight on October 31st, and celebrations often go on until November 2nd. It is the witches new year! 

Some historic traditions:

Just like at Beltane, bonfires are lit in high places on Samhain, like at hilltops, and around them rituals would take place. During this community ritual, people would take flames from the bonfire and use them to relight the hearths of their homes. They did this to bind the community together. They would also use these fires for divination in their rituals. 

In Gaelic regions, during household festivities many rituals that took place were intended to divine the future of everyone there, for example apple bobbing. (If you don’t already know this, Apples are strongly associated with ancestors and the other world.) The first to bite into an apple was the next allowed to marry!

As you most likely have heard a zillion times, The veil between our world and the next is thinner on Samhain. This is true, Samhain is  a liminal time, and that means the barriers separating the world of the living and the dead and other spirits can be crossed more easily than at any other point in the year. It is said that entities called ‘Aos Si’ can slip from their world into ours, through a summoning or their own will. During Samhain it is traditional to leave libations for any aos si that have come into our realm. This is usually in the form of food & drink, like a plate of soul cakes, a small portion of a meal and a cup of wine. Due to this thin veil, it is a time for honoring those who have passed. It is widely believed spirits of loved ones will come and visit their former homes and seek hospitality from those within. Places should always be set for loved ones who have passed at the table on Samhain. I even set a place for a spirit I feel in my home. People will often hold a “dumb supper”. It is a silent meal during which you set a place for visiting spirits, and invite them to join you.

Traditional Samhain Activities 

Bobbing for Apples- The fewer tries it took to catch an apple, the sooner you’d fall in love or marry. If the apple was crisp and crunchy, the participant would have a happy marriage. If it was soft or rotten, it was bad news for your love life future.

Peeling the Apple- You peel one long strip of skin from an apple and then throw the peel over your shoulder. Whatever letter the peel resembles is said to be the first letter of your soulmates name.

Hazelnut Divination- Couples would throw hazelnuts into a fire, and if it burned it predicted a long and happy relationship, and if it cracked open it showed a rocky road ahead.

Samhain Correspondences

Colors: Red, brown, gold, yellow and orange.

Herbs: Rosemary, mullein, rue, mugwort, calendula, tobacco, apple leaf, sage, wormwood, tarragon, bay leaf, almond, hazelnut, garlic, mandrake root, yew, sandalwood, pumpkin, pennyroyal, pine needle, cedar, chrysanthemum, & hemlock.

Symbols: Lanterns, candles, acorns, bones, photos or memoirs of passed loved ones, Jack O’ Lanterns, corn dolls and corn stalks, scythes, cauldrons, spiderwebs, masks, oak leaves and mirrors.

Food & Drinks: Apples (or foods with apples baked in), potatoes, corn, nuts, turnips, pumpkins, mead, cider, mulled/spiced wine, tea.

Things to do: DIVINATIOOOON GIRLLL(scrying, tarot reading, rune casting, pendulum reading, etc.), holding a dumb supper, lighting a bonfire, looking into your past life,leaving offerings for spirits, cooking, feasting, dressing up in a costume.

Stones & Crystals: Obsidian, Onyx, petrified wood, hematite, smokey quartz, bloodstone, clear quartz, garnet, carnelian, amber, sandstone.

Animals: Black cats, owls, bats, stags, ravens, crows, spiders and black dogs.

I would like to add a note to be cautious on Samhain. If you have a black pet please keep it inside, lots of sick people will harm these animals on this night. Please be careful with spirit work as well, the veil is very thin and as you would normally with spirit work protect yourself, but x10 on samhain. Carry a gris-gris, Create your circles, Keep blessed salt around, Make sure you end conversations with the Ouija and it won’t hurt to keep a silver coin on it, like they say it keeps evil spirits from coming through.  Treat spirits, creatures and humans around you with respect. 

🖤apache tear + gentle form of obsidian, useful for mending sorrow and grounding + legend states this stone formed when the tears of weeping apache women fell to the ground as they mourned their dead warriors

🖤calendula (marigold) + often used in funerals and remembrance ceremonies, eases sorrow + closely tied to samhain and día de los muertos

🖤cemetery dirt + used in a variety of death rituals and spells + contacting the dead, banishment, protection, astral protection + various types have different effects, research ethical collection first

🖤copal + resin often burned for purification, grounding, exorcism + closely tied to día de los muertos

🖤cypress (tree of death) + used to honor the dead and mend associated sorrow + chips may be sprinkled over a grave to ease the pain of loved ones left behind and help the departed soul move on + classic symbol of mourning, commonly found in cemeteries 

🖤frankincense + resin burned for consecration, exorcism, communing with the dead

🖤mullein (corpse candles) + can be used as a substitute for cemetery dirt + stalks are often used as wicks for homemade candles + used to invoke spirits and for divination 

🖤myrrh + resin burned for purification, exorcism, healing sorrow + increases power of any incense, often paired with frankincense 

🖤patchouli + can be used as a substitute for cemetery dirt + powerful, earthy musk when burned, useful for grounding in rituals

🖤poppy + suitable offering for the dead and many deities associated with such + brings peace to the deceased and loved ones

🖤rowan (mountain ash) + may be worn or planted near homes for protection + planted on graves to prevent haunting by departed spirits

🖤violet + legends tell of violets blooming on graves of virgins and saints + appropriate offering for the graves of children

🖤willow (witches aspirin) + traditional symbol of mourning as it “weeps” similarly to humans + used for protection and to commune with spirits + often found in cemeteries to soothe departed spirits

🖤wormwood + often used to summon spirits and commune with the dead + burned with sandalwood at night in cemeteries to conjure spirits

Especially if you’re young. I started witchcraft when i was still a minor and you’d be shocked at how many men use this stuff to get into young girl’s heads.

So you’re new to witchcraft. You’re excited, you’ve already bought like 50 candles and some sage, and now you’re itching to do a spell.

But

I know it’s hard, but just relax for a moment. Let me share with you some tips I wish I knew when I was a young witch.

Start solitary: a lot of people say you need a mentor to get you started but honestly, just let Google be your mentor. You need to practice alone first to at least get the basics down, find out what your craft is about, what are your values while practicing, what is your favorite spell type to do, are you going to mix religion in with it? Find out these things first, then worry about a coven later.

Keep a notebook. I know it’s so tempting to get that pretty, expensive leather bound journal to keep as a griomoire, but trust me, you’ll thank yourself down the line. Keep a notebook as your first grimoire, sort of like the rough draft.

Don’t feel like you HAVE to be wiccan. You don’t, not all witches are wiccan

You don’t have to worship male gods if you don’t want to

You don’t have to have certain political beliefs. A lot of “witches” on here will judge you for being gender critical, they’ll try and say you’re not a real witch, but witchcraft is a practice, not a political statement. And the only reason they get so angry is because they know we’re right, and they can’t stand that.

Your altar doesn’t have to be elaborate or grand. Your altar (unless it’s a god-dedicated one) is supposed to represent you. It’s okay to have a simple altar

Don’t get discourged. If your spells and what not don’t work the first time, just keep practicing, you will get better

Trust your womb

It’s okay to just do little tiny spells for a while. You don’t always have to do big elaborate rituals

Connect. With. Your. Body. Women’s bodies are the source of our magic, especially our menstral cycles, uterus and womb. Your magic will be that much stronger

Speak your truth. Even if your voice shakes

Do NOT let men and their handmaidens bully you. You are allowed to have a female centered craft, you are allowed to have an “exclusionary” practice.

Do NOT rush into any kind of spell or spirit work. If you don’t do proper research and you mess up, these things WILL back fire

Kitchen witchcraft is no joke. That stuff does work, sometimes scarily well

Always work with the moon. Tell her your sins, tell her your worries.

Now, here’s some tricks I’ve learned over the years

Thrift stores are your friend. A friend of mine found a statue for her Persophone altar at goodwill once.

You can make your own candles! Just get a ball of wick (can be found at craft stores ) get some wax from Wal-Mart and a pencil, and either a glass container or a Pringles can, or some other tearable mold. This will make your spells stronger and if you use them for your goddess, they will love them all the more

Box and drawer altars. Nothing more to say on that

If you don’t have a statue for your goddess, a large candle and a painting or even a drawing you made for her will work just fine

Plant lavender for luck

Leave your broom upside down be your door to keep away unwanted spirits and guests

Spend as little money as you can on your craft. It’s a personal journey, not an investment

Jars.

Use a playing card deck as a tarot deck. Make your own personal meaning for each card

Cats are connected to women for a reason. Listen to and watch them

Don’t be afraid to ask for a second opinion

Put a sprig or sachet full of rosemary by your bed, it will improve memory and give you sweet dreams

Always carry a good luck charm. Mine is a dollar bill with “stay woke” written on it
