You're going to hear a lot of opinions on giving the reader a personality. I say, experiment with it until you've found how much of it you're comfortable with portraying. Logically, it's not possible to make a "personality less" reader if you're going to write a story. Because the moment your reader is interacting with someone/something, there's a personality being created, so to say. I've found that there is always another person who's been looking for a reader with a specific personality that I've written.
Using second person pov is generally the best for reader insert fics.
Avoid hyper specific descriptors for the reader's physicality. Physique is a much more sensitive area than personality. If you're writing something physical, keep the descriptions as vague as possible. E. g. "you felt warmth coating your cheeks" instead of "you blushed".
Keep your formatting simple and easy to read, unless it absolutely requires something dynamic. This is applicable for any kind of written work.
Never look at numbers, for your own sake.
Wherever you're posting your fics, tag properly. Mention any content warnings that might be in the fic, the dynamic, the pairings, the reader's gender, sexuality etc.
Before you share your fics, drill this into your head: there's a 50% chance your fic will flop and 50% chance it'll be well received (generally). So that when either of the two possibilities happen, you don't let it get to you badly.
Never listen to TikTok and Twitter. Especially TikTok.
Don't be afraid of cliches. No one actually cares that a trope has been done thousands of times before so long as you can execute it in an entertaining way.
Fame? What's that? This is the area to be unapologetically cringe with your homies and flex all the creative freedom that you have.
Writing reader insert fics is not like, a completely alien breed of fiction, although many people think it's still like those ye old sold to one direction in my messy bun typa wattpad fics (no disrespect though). They're just stories at the end of the day.
