The reach of technology

The Chinese mobile games market is forecast to grow at an astounding rate of 93% in 2014 over 2013, to $2.9 billion, and is expected to continue growth at a brisk CAGR of 37.6% through 2018 according to Niko Partners, the market intelligence firm where I am the managing partner.

The Chinese market comprised 12% of global mobile games revenue in 2013, based on our estimate and AppLift/NewZoo’s estimate of the global mobile games market size. The 12% ratio of the global market revenue will certainly rise over time. China already comprises roughly 50% of global PC online games market revenue. And now that the 14-year ban on game consoles has been lifted, China may become an important segment of the global console market when sales start there in earnest.
