so that post i did about her anger issues literally had me thinking of hotaru becoming a part of the yakuza later in life.
like, yeah, it's not the best path choice. but it's one that means she's never going to be alone again. in fact, she ends up in one of the most respectable families (although still shady) because she worked her way there.
because she doesn't fit in anywhere else. given she's dropped out of high school and doesn't return (if she stayed, it was just to finish out the year before quitting entirely), she will eventually end up as a yakuza member one way or the other.
she does end up mellowing out at the very least-
Imagine if she would say: βBecause a corpse canβt laugh.β
i did. tack on evil cackling after and you have the full thing.

@justicepuppet replied:
"Stabbing their shadows is untraceable and still causes intense psychic damage."
"And it means that I won't be caught for any crimes...." She certainly is liking this idea. "Well, guess their day's getting super fucked."
Seems like she has anger issues?
yeah, she does.
it's spelled out pretty directly in her backstory, but i'll lay it out here for ya:
hotaru has been bullied since she was able to go to school. her parents never showed up to any of the stuff parents were supposed to, causing her to be seen as different. in japan, at least from heavy research, people who are different are treated in a way that will hopefully make them go back to being "normal". conformity and unity is a big thing. standing out is never good.
you stand out, you get bonked with a hammer to fit back into the hole created from the olden days of japan.
anyway-
being bullied for the majority of her life? she snapped already when she was still just eleven years old, using every little bit of strength in her tiny body to beat up her bully and got reprimanded for it. because you're supposed to just grin and bear it!
coupled with the isolation she's been facing since coming to shujin and the abuse she faced at kamoshida's hand? hotaru is a ticking timebomb waiting to blow. she is angry, she is hurt, she has suffered.
and what's worse is that the anger runs deep. she could legitimately kill someone with her bare hands and would not care if she did.
hotaru has a lot of anger issues. she keeps them really, really shoved down deep because she's not allowed to feel emotion outside of the norm. because what's expected of her is a happy, compliant woman who will later become a mother.
and she wants nothing more than to just watch the world burn. she'll set it on fire herself!
Invoker (Leon) and Aqua (Chloe) stood perplexed as Mnemosyne was relentlessly stabbing the unfortunate Shadows who crossed their path.
Oh, she was relentlessly stabbing them, alright.
By using her Persona to do it.
She'll be fiiiiine, the exhaustion's nothing.
Man, she can't stab people? That sucks. She'll stab their Shadows instead.
My Mom needs help
Hi.
This is gonna come across as a scam since I don't use this blog right now and- honestly? I don't blame you for thinking that. I put it down in a document, but I'll write it out here too.
On April 26th, I got a message from my mom saying she needed to talk to me. I figured there'd been something new like maybe my cousin was once again in some sort of financial trouble that they wanted me to fish her out of and give to "the love of her life" (which is probably where the money I got my cousin before went).
What I didn't expect was that my mom would ask me for help to get her out of her situation. She started crying on the phone during because it was that horrendous. Telling me about how she doesn't get basic amenities, is treated like the scum of the earth and her dog is getting thin and she doesn't want to die. Doesn't want her dog to die.
And honestly? I do not want to lose my mom nine months after my brother's passing. I don't want her to lose the dog she's cared for since he was a pup that she bonded with over their shared status as the small one of the family.
The worst part about this? My mom is disabled and on SSI/SSDI, so she's on a horrendously limited income because it's not been fixed for inflation and prices rising/modern day needs.
Here's the google doc that has the full information. I got evidence today (April 30th) of the conditions she has to live in and it's bad. She looks like she's living in a repurposed shed, has no AC in Arizona of all places and is basically being treated less than a prisoner.
You can donate to help her here: https://ko-fi.com/tsukuyomibun
All the money will be given to her the moment she says to give it to her. I want her out. I want her safe and with her cousin/sister instead of slowly dying in the heat of Arizona.

@mnxmosyne liked for a starter.
"Excuse me, I know this may sound strange, but would you be amenable to letting me sketch you? I've never seen a person with white hair before."
"Huh?" That was a strange request, though there wasn't any harm in a sketch. "Sure. I don't mind it. Need me to strike a pose or something? My clothes are fine, right?"
She was just wearing an overly big sweater that reached her knees and leggings with sneakers. Ultimate cozy factor.
man. out of the frying pan, into the fire as they say. irl has been hell, especially yesterday and today. depression's at an all-time high but i am doing my best despite it.
He didn't want to be in Mementos now. Everything was rapidly beginning to spin out of control, and he had to fight to keep up appearances now more than ever. The Phantom Thieves were slipping further and further into his trap, Shido was demanding more and more people be killed to help him achieve his ideals, and Akechi-
Akechi wanted... an escape.
It was pathetic. This close to being able to accomplish his goal, and yet he found himself desperately wishing that something would happen to put a halt to it. Wasn't it becoming obvious? Weren't they paying attention? With each new death caused by hands--
It didn't matter. He could wish and want to his heart's desire, but none of it would matter and none of it would change that he had gotten himself into his mess - and now he'd have to get himself out.
Today's target was a man accused of stealing another's work. It was hardly a crime worthy of death, but someone had posted about it on the Phansite and so now the target of their ire had to die. Pathetic, really, but this was the system the Phantoms had created. Akechi was simply following their example, all to make sure their name was well and truly dragged through the dirt.
And it was here, on one of the lower floors of Mementos, that he spotted something that wasn't a shadow. Someone who also wasn't another Persona user.
On the off chance that the Phantoms might have decided to come into Mementos, Akechi's appearance had reverted to his Black Mask form, and in the dim lighting on this floor he could only imagine the eerie shape he would give off. And it would be better to just leave-- but how did she--
"-- Hotaru?"
... with the mask on, his voice wasn't immediately recognizable. Perhaps he could just grab her and take her back to the entrance. Force her to leave and never ask how she got here.
This place was creepy. It was odd. And Hotaru was looking around after her initial observation. Not too far from where she'd arrived, mind, but just far enough that she'd actually get a better look at the place. Maybe about halfway away from her "entry point", if one could call it that.
It didn't seem too dark, thankfully, but just enough that she could barely make heads or tails of things and instead crept along the side of the wall. But there was anxiety in every movement and she was looking over her shoulder.
Trying not to find the bullies travelling behind her, after her, ready to hurt her-
"-- Hotaru?"
The voice that said her name made her jump. In the lighting, she couldn't really make out the proper silhouette besides the helmet. The eerie fucking helmet with its weird glass where the eyes of a helmet usually would be-
Wait.
She replayed the voice in her head. The tone was different. There was so much difference in it, like it was someone else. But they knew her somehow, and that was enough. Enough that they knew her name (even though she hadn't connected the dots yet to tell who the voice belonged to) and wasn't chasing after her.
"Oh thank god," Hotaru said, anxiety leaving her as she slumped to the ground. Hand against the wall, looking so drained. Coming down from anxiety highs were the worst. "You're not one of those three."
Sitting on the ground was probably not the best choice, but she needed a breather before she even considered running the voice through her head again. They knew her-- he knew her. Male, the person was male. Right?
Even if she put two and two together, she didn't vocalize it at all. Though it took her a few moments to get back on her feet, she didn't make any movements to go near or away from him. Just leaned against the wall, not wanting to move from her spot yet.
"There.. It's just you here? Please tell me you're at least not with those three I just escaped from."
There was definite anxiety in her voice when she asked him that. Hotaru just needed to know if she was safe or if she had to run and escape from him if he was with those three bitches she was dealing with.
@veritases asked:
β I must struggle to survive so that this beautiful and perfect world comes back to life. β
"And what are you getting out of it, huh? People like you make me sick, thinking they're doing the right thing when all they're doing is hurting someone else!"
Hypocritical of her, really, but she'd dealt with this all the time. Of people thinking they were doing the right thing. The Phantom Thieves, her parents, the people who spouted they were doing things for the greater good.
This really made her sick to her stomach. What sort of right did he have to make this world "beautiful" and "perfect"?
When she'd woken up to her parents being together and home, being domestic? She'd panicked because it was wrong. She knew so deep in her heart it was wrong that it shattered the illusion that was holding her from her reality.
Even Emiko had been fine, her anemia completely cured and she'd been attending Shujin like there hadn't been a problem. Her mother's most beloved patient, more loved than her own daughter.
Although she had wished for this, it shouldn't have come too late. When she'd given up on ever having her parents around, given up on caring about anyone that didn't care about her or helped her. She hated that it came too late.
Especially since it was trying to wipe the blood off her hands.
Her bullies were alive, kind towards her and everyone around them as if the year and some months of isolating her from her peers never happened.
The people who had died by her hands were alive and kinder than they were before. Like changes had happened, but not the change of heart that the Phantom Thieves had done. No, this was worse.
"Who the hell do you think you are, giving us a world like this?! None of us asked for you to do this when we poured our hearts out to you! We were looking for advice to help us through it! You were our therapist, goddamn it! You were supposed to help us!
So come on, give me a good damn reason not to kill you where you stand. You're hurting everyone by keeping this "beautiful and perfect world" like it is! Our pain and suffering makes us who we are today, not this! I'm not going to sit around and let you fuck with my life, Maruki!"
i feel so bad for maruki in this ask i'm finally replying to... but i never said post-awakening hotaru was a good person-

"Oh?" Akechi-san. Not Akira. That was a little surprising, but Sojiro supposed that rumors of the Detective Prince stopping by his little cafe for a cup of coffee would also start to get around. Now that it had actually happened, he found himself a little surprised it wasn't more commonplace and hadn't happened sooner. His fangirls were rather notoriously intense when it came to finding and taking pictures of their beloved Detective.
"Yeah, he does come by every so often." Come to think of it though, he hadn't been around the past several weeks. "But-- you know him?" Having something he dropped didn't necessarily mean that, and trying to track him down at a cafe instead of just texting him also seemed to indicate that she didn't, not really, but it was still just a little bit of a surprise.
Sojiro blinked and smiled when she asked for the Hawaii Kona. "You know your stuff, huh? The canned version is nothing like getting it fresh." As he spoke he started the process of brewing the coffee.
"... So, how do you know Akechi?"
"Sort of?" The answer came a little awkwardly, given the way that the two of them hadn't had any contact since that day. But she'd seen this fall from his pocket, so she'd wanted to return it. Even if it meant opening the wound that was still trying to heal. "We... uh, haven't spoken in a bit."
He'd made it perfectly clear he was just stringing her along, that their friendship was a means to an end for him. And yet, she'd forgone usual methods to just try to find him and return one item that he was probably missing.
"I'm not picky in what I try. It looked interesting, so... You have the bean version, and it's got a good flavour from the canned version...." Lamely gesturing at the shelves behind the counter, Hotaru hoped she got her point across somehow. As the coffee was being brewed and the question sprung upon her, her heart skipped a couple beats as she was reminded that he'd thrown what she'd told him in confidence back in her face.
Swallowing down the anxiety that bubbled to the surface, Hotaru shook her head. "We were friends for a bit, but it didn't work out. All I want to do is return this and close that chapter of my life."
Even if she'd left the door open for him to resume their friendship. That was probably never going to happen, because he'd made his point clear to her. Akechi no longer wanted anything to do with her.
Most people would see this as a pathetic ploy to get his attention again. Hotaru just wanted to do the right thing and then move on as best as she was able to.
"If he visits. Often enough, maybe I could leave it here? So- so we don't have to do an awkward song and dance around things." She slumped in her seat. Clearly, talking was just making it worse, wasn't it?
Part of him found this girl odd, the way she selfishly plopped down across an entire pew without a care in the world. On the other hand, he could understand it - the desire to be away from a crowded, judgmental place like school.
Especially with the whispers he'd heard from church members regarding the other adults. Despicable.
"You're old enough to decide if class is appropriate for you." The response is accompanied by the faintest of smiles, hands busy flipping through a tome to bookmark pages for the weekend's sermon.
"Additionally... I'm loathe to force any student endure the atmosphere at that institution. At least I can assure here is safe."
"Also old enough to decide if I want to go at all." High school wasn't compulsory, as many thought, but because of the want to fit in at all times? Everyone went. It was another case of not wanting to stand out- because the peg that stood out got hammered back in.
But at least here was safe, cemented by the fact he'd said as much. Not many of the people from Shujin stopped by, so it made this place more like a safe haven for her when she just didn't want to go. Maybe she'd drop out soon.
Who knew?
"Which I definitely appreciate. Don't have a lot of safe places, so this is preferable." She looked over at him before slowly sitting up and shifting to where she sat normally on the pew. This pew, until she left, was now her pew.
"You setting up for the next time you gotta talk in front of a big crowd of people?"
