It was fair to say that Lana was losing her patience. She was already frustrated due to her maths homework seeming to make no sense, and her speedster boyfriend wasn’t helping in the slightest. She knew Peter struggled with sitting still, often flitting between different activities in an attempt to satiate his boredom. That’s just the sort of person Peter was, even before his mutation developed. Sometimes Lana wished he came with an ‘off’ switch.

‘Are you done yet?’ Peter asked for what felt like the twelfth time that minute, causing Lana to let out a small sigh and shake her head as she stared down at the maths textbook she was working from. ‘What about now?’ Peter asked again, knowing full well her pen hadn’t made contact with the paper since he last asked.

Lana huffed and threw her pen onto the bed beside her, giving her boyfriend her full attention with a furrowed brow. ‘No, Peter. I’m not done, and I won’t be done for a while, so please just stop asking.’

Peter studied Lana’s face for a second. ‘Are you mad? You look mad.’

‘I’m not mad,’ Lana responded, trying her best to keep her voice even. 

‘Your face is screwed up like you’re mad.’

‘I’m perturbed, not mad.’ Lana sighed, picking her pen up and turning back to her homework. A few moments of silence passed by, the annoyed look having not left Lana’s face as she worked. Peter just silently watched her before deciding to pipe in once again.

‘You still look mad.’

Lana groaned out in frustration, glaring at Peter. ‘I’m NOT mad!’ She yelled, holding her pen in a vice-like grip. After a few seconds she sighed, her shoulders dropping. ‘I’m sorry Peter, I’m just… I don’t want to fail this class, and I’m struggling to concentrate. I’m sorry for snapping at you…’

Within an instant Peter’s arms were around his girlfriend’s midsection, holding her close to his chest. ‘I’m sorry for bugging you Lana, I didn’t mean to stress you out.’

Lana just shook her head, her eyes closing as she leant against the speedster’s chest. ‘I know, it’s not your fault,’ She sighed, fiddling with the hem of her t-shirt as she calmed down. 

Peter rubbed Lana’s back soothingly as they sat in comfortable silence, a small smile on his face. ‘Hey, how about we go and get some ice cream, maybe go for a walk around the campus for a bit? You’ve been cooped up in here for too long worrying over your maths, I’m pretty sure you’re gonna go crazy if you’re in here any longer,’ He joked, pressing a gentle kiss to her temple.

‘Hm… Alright, but you’re paying for the ice cream.’ Lana joked with a smile as she sat up and turned to face Peter, her lips pressing against his for a second before she got up and grabbed her jacket.
