ok sorry to double reblog BUT I just looked him up and he does these fantastic videos where he breaks down HOW he actually mimics the other artists’ styles. Like for ed Sheeran, he explains how he brings his voice forward in the mouth, while Adam Levine sings in the back of the mouth, stuff like that. It’s SO COOL, I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone actually break down how to do this sort of thing, as a skill, instead of just treating it like a neat trick they just happen to be good at. https://www.tiktok.com/@justinjmooremusic
Check him out he’s so cool
........... THAT'S where the groan tube singing thing comes from?!??!?!
Didn't post last 2 weeks of listening so... 2 weeks ago I finished up my Rush deep dive and ended the week with the new Muse album. This past week was like..some more Muse and some Swans at the end and some other stuff. Neither week was super heavy on listening ahaha.

New page of IF I is up! Basma has one last word of encouragement for Vahn...
Also heads up, there's one (maybe two) more page(s) left of chapter 18, and then the comic goes on a proper hiatus for 3 months while I gather myself and rest.
Click the link and read along in the meantime!
So uhhh forgot to share last weeks listening but I started a Rush deep dive and got up to their last album of the 80's. This week I finished, you'll see when I get there.
Rush rules tbh.

The crossover of the century Modest Mouse x Hatsune Miku is real and I had to draw this
(for context Modest Mouse used the fucking Miku pedal on the new album and its glorious)

Life was happening so I missed last week and this page took way longer to finish than normal, but it's here!
And we get a bit more about Basma!

Some strange left field listens, Modest Mouse, primus, Mount Eerie/The Microphones..... And then the new Modest Mouse album dropped...
picking up on my tag rant from the previous post, it just, sounds so incredibly banal to say "oh, Hiromu Arakawa, widely celebrated and extremely talented mangaka, is an artistic genius and I- someone very aware of her legacy since high school- am only just processing this" but I think one of the most interesting things about art, especially narrative visual art like shows and comics, is that it's extremely easy for a huge amount of artistic skill to go utterly unnoticed.
A comic is something you can blitz through extremely quickly. It's arguably one of the most legible mediums. Also, as a lifelong visual artist, the prospect of making a comic intimidates the hell out of me. I know that reflex isn't reasonable and I have every intent to buckle down and just, do it more but every now and then I think about friends like @catcomixzstudios, @cm8x-insanity or @mistersaturn123 who have actually produced webcomics and I clench a little in existential awe.
And this is just... an emotion I've been having lately. Like everyone knows about Great Celebrated Artists- nobody shuts up about Hayao Miyazaki for good reason- but I feel like at age thirty I'm only now just starting to sit down and actually consciously parse what these people are doing and why it's so good.

Listening last week was kinda light but was heavy on new (to me) stuff.
Three albums I already heard and the rest was all stuff I hadn't listened to before. Very little consistency in style from slowcore, to indie folk, to avant-garde black metal.
