What is true love? 

In my definition, it is when two people can accept each other unconditionally whilst growing and healing together in life. 

Lust and true love are separate. They are not the same thing. 

In our society, the lines are often blurred between the two. 

To lust is to have an intense desire for someone, the thought that one completes another, an attachment. The notion that the quantity of time you have spent with that person is more valued than the quality of time shared between the two. The longer the time of “anniversary” does not account for whether or not the time spent together was valuable. We tend to put a lot of pressure onto this futile idea, perhaps, in the beginning, yes the lust is there, but to think that this is what substitutes having a healthy relationship? Oh, no honey... 

To love is knowing that you are a whole person, and the other person cannot make you happy, complete you or make you feel better about yourself.

That’s your responsibility. 

It is knowing that the other person brings their own quirks, values, beliefs to the relationship, where you two can meet the middle ground and grow to understand one another a little better, whether it is romantic or not. 

And most importantly, to know that you and the other person will be okay once either one eventually passes away, to know that it’s okay to let go. 

As you look back you can say that you have grown as an individual, and knowing that you weren’t attached to the “admirable” idea of lusting for someone. That you loved to the best of your ability.
