Unless you count the infestation, though most buildings deal with the occasional pest and whatnot, so I wouldn’t say it’s strange- it’s actually quite interesting how old the institute is and how little pest problems there have been. I haven’t seen a single rat or mouse even near the building. That weirdly large puddle that hardly ever goes away seems like a pretty good place for mosquito larvae, though in all honestly I don’t know much about their-

Well- there’s a puddle around the side of the institute. It’s very wide and only goes away when it’s raining, for whatever reason.

I actually planted some daffodils near it to give the place a bit of colour.

Statement of Michael...uhm... Shelley. Regarding a uhm... an odd puddle.

Ahem

As I said before, I decided to plant and few daffodils around the side of the institute since the whole building is just so.. dull.

Daffodils have also always been my favorite sort of flower, so I was quite excited when they finally started growing.

I’m not sure when I first noticed the puddle that was… I want to say a few meters away from the flowers?

It was quite wide, but too muddy to see how deep it went.

I didn’t pay it any mind at first because, well- you know how London’s weather is.

A while ago I came into work on a particularly rainy day.

The repetitive beating of the raindrops on my umbrella gave me quite the headache, and I had left my painkillers at home.

When I went to check on the daffodils- like I always do- I noticed something.. odd.

The puddle was just.. gone?

It didn’t make sense, since it was practically pouring out!

There was no indent in the ground at all, but I just.. went inside and blamed it on my headache.

The next day came and yet again, I checked on the daffodils. The puddle was there and even bigger than before.

At this point I wasn’t completely sure what was going on, so I dropped a small stone into the water.

It plunked into the puddle but didn’t seem to stir up any mud.

I then grabbed a stick about the size of my forearm to see how deep it went. I expected it to immediately hit the ground, but I felt no resistance as I pushed it into the puddle.

I had just about reached the end of the stick, so I decided to try and find a longer one to better test the depth.

As I began to pull out the stick, I realized it was stuck. I tried moving it around a bit, but I would not come free.

As I was just sort of.. wiggling the stick, I realized that it could easily be pushed into the puddle, but could not be pulled out.

I realized this a bit too late, as the tip of my finger was just on the puddle’s surface.

That’s er.. why I have a plaster on it.. hehe

It properly spooked me- I know you hate that word, but it’s accurate- so I just sort of left it alone after that.

In summary- it’s a supposedly bottomless puddle that disappears when it rains and reappears when it’s sunny and will not return anything that is out into it.
