is this a safe space to admit that the last episode of Cowboy Bebop is literally the coolest shit to ever grace the screen? even just the way it recontextualizes the ending theme, which I always saw as representing the stagnancy and the gritty realities of a life spent running from the past, and suddenly it twists the knife. those old days arenāt coming back. all of that time spent running isnāt coming back to you. this is it. and itās this moment of huge catharsis, but at the same time itās horrifying because no one is walking away from this unscathed. the greatest TV show ever produced, I stand by it

now that weāre halfway through the year, can we can all admit that āLetās Do It Again!ā by The Last Dinner Party is the best song thatās released in 2026? (potential spoilers in case I do a year-end list, but who cares?)
āThis Is The Killer Speakingā from their album last year kind of had the same song structure (elegant, baroque verse ā> bridge that could pass for a chorus on its own ā> shockingly energetic, poppy chorus) but this time they take that structure and fucking run with it. like, what if there was a jaunty-ass, beautifully off-kilter guitar solo that kind of sounds like a drunk pirate (do not ask me to explain what this means) and then we introduce a fourth, even smoother, poppier section with a tempo change in the last minute and a completely different vocalist? just for the love of the game? what if we did that?

I was going to make a post diving into the ending of JJKās Hidden Inventory arc, that scene of Geto & Gojo holding Rikoās body, surrounded by the crowd applauding her death because itās fucking haunting and sort of surreal but then I was watching reactions to the episode on YouTube and got completely sidelined by a guy who wanted Toji to win his rematch with Gojo earlier in the episode so badly that he watched the hollow purple blow his arm off and said āit might missā. brother itās a nuclear bomb what are we talking about
the JJK writers were on some downright malicious shit in the writing room for Hidden Inventory / Premature Death and thereās a lot you can take away about trauma & PTSD & isolation & the weight of expectation & the failure of the higher-ups and the older generations to provide a support system for the youth and all of that and yeah thatās all valid but the only thing on my mind right now is what the fuck kind of hater shit was Toji on? like I know heās a hitman but he could absolutely hear that whole conversation between Riko & Geto and and still shot her instantly. didnāt even let her take his hand. thatās not even professional thatās just a dick move

I just wanted to rant about this for a minute after finishing the movie a few hours ago- Rika, as a concept, is so fucking sick? Yuta caring so much for her that he accidentally brings her back from death as a huge spirit that is the embodiment of this pure, almost feral, unconditional love that fights alongside him is so incredibly cool (theyāre so striking when they stand side-by-side) and heās fucking horrified at the idea that he did this to her until eventually that same unconditional love they have for each other allows her to finally pass on ohhh dude.
Also, that quote at the end is still killing me. āThatās rude. Our love is pure.ā and then they nuke the villain with the power of that love so hard that it creates a mushroom cloud? I dunno, itās just cool. Iām not going anywhere with this, I just wanted to talk about it
episode seven of JJK is some of the most hyped I've ever been for a TV show, but now I'm at episode twenty, and dude. i love it when a good bromance comes together, this shit is sick as fuck. some of the best fight choreo i've ever seen. beat that tree's ass !!

Iāve been listening to a lot of āIt Just Doesnāt Matterā by Mac Miller recently and itās such a resigned song but thereās that little bit in the middle āCouple people that I know that happened to play me / once they stop to realize that Iām actually crazy- shit, Iām actually crazyā¦ā and then thereās this little pause where you can hear the cogs in his brain turning. then he kind of trails off before picking up the next line
on an album that is essentially a cautionary tale (hereās what these drugs did to me, donāt let it happen to you) that little moment of realization is so fucking scary. like it just dawned on him how fucking bad things are getting. but it doesnāt really get better? he opens up a lot more in the next verse but the rest of the album is just as pessimistic and like. fuck, man, itās such a small moment and it lives in my brain forever, I dunno
Five Standout Songs That I Heard for the First Time This Month (June ā26)
Baby - Geese:Ā A beautifully weird and oddly soulful cover of Justin Bieberās āBabyā. Itās such a strange pick that it circles back around to feeling obvious- the original track is so overplayed that it hardly feels like a song anymore, but Geese breathe new life into it and remind you that it was a smash-hit for a reason. Itās also got a fucking sick guitar solo and a spoken word rendition of Ludacrisā verse, if you needed more convincing.
Time Of No Reply (Take 3 Into 4) - Nick Drake:Ā I canāt believe this track never made it onto an album. Itās a wonderful stripped-back, solemn number that floored me on a first listen. Some music takes you to a different place, but Nickās specialty is grounding you in the present moment. I swear the grass is greener when heās around.
True Love Will Find You In The End - Wilco:Ā I was apparently very into covers this month. Wilcoās take on Daniel Johnstonās classic includes added alt-country twang and some lovely subtle drumming that gives it a little extra pep. Jeff Tweedyās voice is right at home here, and the vocal harmonies on the chorus are heart-wrenching.
So What? - Jane Remover: Possibly Janeās most straightforward love song. Itās got a dreamy sheen and their trademark freaky-ass production, but instead of splitting your skull apart like Revengeseekerz could, it puts you in a gentle sort of trance. Iām so angry I didnāt check out the EP it was on earlier.
Archbishop Harold Holmes - Jack White: A barebones, tongue-in-cheek romp that just fucking rocks. Itās deceptively catchy and delivered with the sort of charismatic snarl that only Jack White could pull off. This was probably the song I came back to the most this month, in part for the music video, which features some of the worst special effects Iāve ever seen. Itās very charming.
