Chara took a bite out of the treat and immediately started to devour it whole. The chocolate bar was gone in an instant.
Asriel laughed, “Your face is covered in chocolate!”
Chara, surprised and embarrassed, looked away from the others. The others stifled a chuckle as Asriel handed him a napkin to clean her face.
As they chatted around the fireplace about their favorite foods, which Chara had declared chocolate as her favorite, a female, adult, goat person entered the room. She was holding a pie that seemed to smell a bit odd. She seemed surprised to see Chara.
“My child, I am glad you brought friends over, but who is this?” She asked.
“Oh, this is my new friend, Mom. Their name is Chara!” Asriel answered.
“WE FOUND HER IN THE FOREST,” Papyrus explained.
“And she seemed a bit lost, so we thought we should bring her over. I hope you don’t mind, Miss Toriel,” Sans said.
Chara waved awkwardly, worried that she would be shunned away like she was with many of the adults in her hometown, but instead, Toriel set out plates on the coffee table, including one for Chara, and set a piece of pie on the plates.
“I don’t mind at all,” Toriel answered, “Enjoy the snail pie.”
Chara’s face contorts into one of disgust. Snails in a pie. That was one thing that she knew was not supposed to be in one.
“It sounds disgusting, but give it a chance,” Sans said.
“It does?” Asriel replied, confused.
He had had snail pie a lot, as it was her mother's favorite recipe. He didn’t understand how anyone would find it disgusting to put snails in pies.
Chara gingerly used the fork to cut into the pie, its contents oozing out. She took a deep breath and, as quickly as possible, thrust the pie into her mouth. The texture was weird and slimy, but the taste was actually quite amazing.
“It’s good!” Chara exclaimed in surprise.
“Isn’t it,” Sans answered.
“Well, I am glad everyone is enjoying themselves.” Toriel said, “I will be in the garden out back if you need me.”
Toriel walks away, and Asriel gets up to put his dish in the sink. Chara takes another bite of the pie. It really was growing on her. After a bit more talking, Chara takes her plate to the sink, not wanting to leave a mess for someone who gave her food.
Asriel seemed happy to have her around, and she was happy to be here. In all honesty, she didn’t want to go back to her village and all the idiot adults.
The two of them join back up with Sans and Papyrus in the living room. The fire was still brightly dancing, casting shadows onto the wall. The smell of the pie still lingered in the air. It felt very homey and warm.
The two skeletons needed to go home as it was getting late. Asriel and Chara waved them goodbye as they walked through the door. Chara sighed in relief as all the people had drained her energy. She was an introvert.
Chara hadn’t noticed how tired she really was until now, but there was a problem. She had nowhere to stay.
“I don’t have anywhere to stay, so imma just steal a room,” Chara told Asriel jokingly.
Asriel laughed, “We do have a guest bedroom. I can ask mom and dad if you could stay a while.”
