This was boring, beyond boring in fact. Mike hated boring adult parties, heâd sooner watch paint dry and it seemed Mr. Holloway felt the same. He found him at the refreshment table, eating cheese cubes. Mike didnât mind cheese but he certainly wasnât going to stuff his face full of it out of sheer boredom.
He didnât get what the fuss was all about, it was just stupid tupperware. Stupid plastic containers that kept your food fresh, that was it. Nothing to wet your pants over and yet there were dozens of women, mostly mothers and grandmas, fawning over this shit. Taking a grape from a fruit platter, Mike popped it into his mouth and ate it. âPretty boring ass party.â He didnât care if he swore in front of adults and well, Mr. Holloway seemed a bit more lax than his dad when it came to swears.
Tom didnât always enjoy having parties, but they were Janetâs thing. She was a host, and she loved to bring people together. Especially all the mothers, Janet got along with people. Where as Tom just, kept his mouth shut, because Janet asked him too. He had cleaned and helped to decorate for this party, but that was his only role. Now he can just graze and drink his hearts content.Â
When the younger male comes up to him, he is a bit surprised but he doesnât say anything about the language. The laughing and the excited chatter coming from the flock of women in his home, told him it wasnât boring. He and Mike just, werenât interested. So he nods his head a bit.Â
âIâm sorry your mother dragged you here.â Tom then looks to Mike and he jabs a toothpick into another cube of cheese.Â
âI canât leave either..And I live here.âÂ
Tom munches on the cheese cube and then sighs as he tries to think of something to do.Â
âWhat would you be doing right now if you werenât here hmm?â
At least he thought the cussing was funny not that Mike cared much if he didnât. He heard enough scolding from adults about his language that he stopped caring.
Mike took another grape and ate it. Was he gonna end up like Tom but with fruit? âProbably playing on my atari or biking with my friends or reading a comic book. Almost anything is better than being here.â He glanced off to his mother who was excitedly chatting with another lady about something. She held Holly at her side who looked equally as bored as Mike. He almost wanted to find a nearby phone and fingers crossed, Nancy would be home to pick him up and take him away from this godawful place. But alas he was stuck for now. âSure sucks to be us, doesnât it?âÂ
