bio
hwang mirae was born november 11, 1993 in daegu. she was the second child at the time, though her parents would go on to have another kid eight years after her, making her the middle child ultimately.
it’s a miracle her parents had three kids because they didn’t get along that well. her mom is a seamstress/tailor who worked day and night to bring in enough to keep a roof over the family’s head, while mirae’s dad was an author. he’s published a few books over his thirty+ year career, but nothing most people have ever read. he also sings in a band that plays really tiny gigs around his neighborhood, but they’ve been going for thirty+ years barely earning a profit too, so it’s not exactly his job.
mirae connected with her dad more. probably because he was around and her mom wasn’t as often because she was working. she saw her parents fight a lot over how her dad didn’t have a “real” job and she swore she’d have a job she loved one day, even if others didn’t approve
her dad would bring her on stage sometimes at his small gigs and she began to love the stage.
in 2008, she was scouted by a modeling agency and moved to seoul (where she lived with her grandparents) to sign with them. they helped pay for her to attend hanlim multi arts school in the fashion model department during this time, but she didn’t really get any work. she worked as a fitting model most regularly and did one or two shoots for in-store stuff at small boutiques or online shopping malls that have closed down by now, but that was about it.
at the end of her eighteen month contract with the modeling agency, she left, but one of the staff suggested she try for a new company that was opening (gold star media) and she decided to audition.
she planned to join their modeling department, but they wanted her as an idol, and she was going to take what she could get.
she’d learned dancing secondhand from a friend when she was younger, but she’d had no formal training in dancing or singing. after a year of training under gold star she, by some miracle, managed to debut as the main dancer and lead vocal of selene.
she’d had to drop out of high school during her year training under gold star because proving herself worthy to debut so she didn’t get shipped back to daegu was becoming pretty dire. she kept it a secret from her parents that she’d dropped out until after she debuted.
selene hit big right away and it was a huge relief for her because she realized maybe she really could make a career out of it and that she hadn’t thrown away modeling for nothing.
gold star allowed her some individual modeling opportunities. she walked in some runway shows and did some photo shoots for magazines. that was going good for a while, but in 2012, she began taking acting lessons and when contract renewals started to approach, she expressed an interest in acting.
she made her acting debut in 2017 in the movie heart blackened and has acted in my mister (2018), parasite (2019), the world of the married (2020), and persona (2021), since.
though she received the normal amount of idol skepticism, she was able to earn praise for her acting by taking on challenging roles that aren’t the usual idol-actor fare and handling them pretty decently.
she’d like to become known as a multi-talented entertainer how can dance, sing, act, and model.
she’s become somewhat known for not being afraid to speak her mind, which has earned her both love and hate.

people who look up to her/are fans/respect her. selene is the most senior group in the roleplay, so there’s potential for that there. she’s mostly known as multi-talented with strong stage presence, if that’s something your muse would look up to
exes, current or past fwbs + hook-ups + crushes (mutual or one-sided on either side). could be positive, negative, or neutral
fellow actors! she’d have a circle of acting friends, i think. most of them she would have become close to after 2019 or so but some she met around her acting debut in 2017 or even before that when she was just taking acting lessons would be nice
juniors she looks out for
others who debuted around the same time as selene who she’s been close to for a long time
public friendships that can either be as genuine or less so behind the scenes
