The red thread they looped around their necks was meant to symbolize had tangled in Linden's excitement but regardless of how many times it had looped and tangled the thread remained strong. Something so small that would last the ages.  Like the the legends back home, Malik smiled gently, Linden was his best friend. And he was Linden's together they had overcome trials  and hardship.
