I don't like sentimonsters being actual living thinking beings with their own soul. Nor do I like sentimonster!Adrien. The implications are much too dark for the show level, and it means that they've been killing real people everytime they've bested a human sentimonster. And that hasn't been given the weight it deserves.

Either commit, which I know they can't, or don't make them sentient beings.

There's this weird implication that all Adrien has to do is stand up to Gabriel and I can't stress enough how that's probably already happened. Adrien's fear of Gabriel is a learned behavior.

So when did he learn it?

Adrien's first Canonical act is running away to go to school. Nathalie's dialogue that first day implying that Gabriel has already forbidden Adrien from attending. Which means Adrien told him about his desire for normal schooling and Gabriel shut it down.

When Adrien expresses worry for Gabriel's safety in Simon Says he gets scolded for "being too emotional."

In the Collector, Gabriel disproportionately punishes Adrien and outright lies to him. Reinforcing Adrien's very accurate belief that he can't say or do anything that would make Gabriel angry without severe repercussions.

Adrien publicly joining the protesters during the mayor's publicity stunt in Mega Leech was treated like he specifically went against Gabriel's orders.

And that's only some of the big things we've seen out of what's shown onscreen. To say nothing about both reset timelines.

Adrien has pushed back against his Father's inflexible disposition over and over and over again. In big ways and small. And every time Gabriel meets his son's "rebellion" with guilt tripping and derision.
