Mio Mayhem

I took the wedding dress skirts and some dye over to a friend’s house (I don’t trust myself sewing satin yet, and she has YEARS of experience with it) and we had some group-think sessions about how to put the skirt together.

(Please excuse my sister’s room. She has a better mirror than me.)

I’m planning to put some tulle under the pink skirt to floof it all out a little, add some clear straps for the top, and tack down the decoration from the bodice to the skirt (as well as tacking the waistband of the skirt back into the bodice, just to make it all one piece for convenience.).

Still a work in progress, but so close to finished!

This is the progress on my costume thus far.

Since I’m making both Homucifer (me) and Godoka (a friend), I decided to up-cycle a couple of dresses, instead of making them both from scratch.

My dress is a prom dress/evening gown that an ex boyfriend bought me that I only wore, like, once. I distressed the bottom to be sort of like the bottom of Homura’s skirt.

Just a few final touches, and I’ll be finished with Homucifer!

I haven’t been working so much on costumes recently. (Unfortunately.) I’ve been working on other things.

BUT! I have made progress on my main cosplay for Animazement 2017!

I used a Homestuck arm-sock tutorial I found to make my gloves out of a pair of tights. (They don’t need to be form fitting for my purposes, so I left out the step where you shape it to your wrist.)

I also hand-stitched instead of using a sewing machine. I just tend to prefer hand-stitching when doing things like this. (I straight-sitched around my cardboard cutout, made sure it fit my hand, then cut the excess and whip-stitched around the edges to be sure the stitching doesn’t pop.)

Yes, I am VERY proud of myself. And I feel ever so slightly bad that I don’t feel bad at all for this.

This is the last thing (other than my son) lasting from a relationship I had once been in, and I am finally getting rid of it, and in the most wonderful way possible. By turning it into something new for my best friend.

Who says destruction can’t be beautiful?

Today, I took my (thoroughly un-used, very second-hand) wedding dress out of storage at my sister’s house, and took a couple wedding-esque photos, out of respect for the life it should’ve had.

Of course, my mother and grandmother are appalled that I am tearing up a wedding dress for a costume. But, this beautiful specimen is going to be dismantled for a Goddess Madoka costume for my best friend.

And this lovely piece of work (which has been worn a couple times) will be taken apart as well to be my Demon Homura costume.

Unfortunately, Misato Katsuragi will not be able to make it. The necklace I was making decided it wanted to break, and I couldn’t fix it, and while I was styling the wig, it decided it didn’t want to dry. It is still dripping wet, and I’ve been trying to blow it dry for a half hour at least.

The other costume I’ll be bringing is Blake Belladonna from RWBY. I didn’t get to snap any pictures of that one, because the vest was being adjusted by a friend who has much better sewing skills than I. As soon as I got it, it was packed so I wouldn’t forget it.

I have absolutely no plan as to what costume I’m going to wear when, and I’m leaving in six hours...

Yes, I do need to find the sock that matches the knee-sock, or just buy a new pair.

I have upped the status of this to full-on costume. I may not end up wearing Blake to this convention at all, because I still have yet to build the ears and bow, and that’s going to take time...

So, Rei Ayanami is my “Don’t feel like dressing up, want to wear my own clothes not a costume” costume. For travel and lazy purposes.

I’ve started another side-project... But this is for my fiance’s daughter’s birthday, so... Worth it?

Jacket is complete!

There’s some minor color bleed from where I was too excited about getting it done to let things completely dry... I’ll probably cover that over soon, though.

My Rei jacket side-project is still not totally complete... I still need to paint the sleeves...

You know how, sometimes, you see a thing online that you REALLY like, but you totally can’t afford it... So you decide to make it yourself?

I have done that. And I only SORT OF regret it.
