R56 Mini Cooper Timing Chain Upgrade Inside a 2007 Mini Cooper S, model R56, with 70,000 miles on it that came to MiniWorx with a loud rattling noise. It was determined to have a timing chain issue and the timing chain was replaced with an upgraded one.

R50 Mini Cooper Engine Misfire

Over the last few months, here at MiniWorx we've been seeing a trend of an increasing number of non S model Mini Coopers coming in with an engine misfire. If it happens to you, you'll notice the engine shaking, especially at idle, and you'll experience a loss of acceleration. The check engine light will most likely come on and stay on. This problem only seems to happen after 100,000 miles or so, however it could occur at any time.

We are finding that a lack of compression in #1 and #2 cylinder is usually the problem, and after performing both compression and leak down tests we find that either 1 or 2 exhaust valves are burned, thereby allowing gases to pass directly into the exhaust manifold . This in time can damage the cylinder head and in some cases cause engine overheating. The only remedy for this is to remove the engine cylinder head and check to see if it is repairable. If so, we replace the damaged valves, valve seats machine, and generally recondition the head before reinstalling back on the engine. This job will take at least 5 days and can cost upwards of $2000.

A very important note is that if you experience a rough idle in your R50 Mini Cooper (2002 to 2007), have us check it as soon as possible. If you keep driving it with a burnt valve for a few days, you will damage the cylinder head beyond the point where it can be repaired. This will add an additional $1800 of repairs to your bill.

On certain vehicles, the electro-hydraulic power steering pump could fail temporarily or permanently due to problems with the electronics that control the function of the pump, a failure of the pump cooling fan, or a loss of power to the pump. A vehicle experiencing a loss of steering power assist would revert to a manual steering mode which would require greater driver effort, especially at low vehicle speeds.

The issue involves the electric auxiliary water pump on models that are equipped with the N14 turbo engine. The auxiliary pump is controlled electronically by an engine control unit. After switching off the engine, the electric auxiliary water pump conducts heat away from the turbocharger.

This poor MINI came in today with a contact lens problem...
