Some observations and theories I made while rewatching Ironlung again:
- SM-8 handbook is scribbled out with several notes being changed throughout suggesting that A. Paper is hard to get so reusing what's there is valuable and B. Proven later on that they were in a rush making the sm-13
- Yes he has anger issues but wouldn't you as well if the captain of your mission cared more about the state of the ship you are welded into than your own well being? No wonder Simon pressed the camera
- Dowsnt help that Ava actively says to jack to not bother with making sure he has enough oxygen for the mission
- Eden isn't everyone instead it's a cult like community, a community seemingly wildly hated by others who aren't in it (like those at c.o.i)
Proven through quotes like
"Go die with the rest of them"
"Idk why I try to talk to you eden people"
- Even with the title of "convict" quotes like before suggest further dehumanisation and lack of individuality in a world like this
Continuing make him feel and be seen less like a person
And more like the representation of all of eden
- I need you to look closely at Simon's wrists when he finds the pendant
On his other arm shown has the same string and broken metal loop proving HE HAD HIS OWN PENDANT BEFORE
possibly a status of brotherhood/eden having a part of the tree with you but c.o.i took it
-how am I sure it's c.o.i? Later on during Simon's further descend to get the black box between hazy moments we hear Ava state that c.o.i confiscate all nature to make a garden of their own
No one else is allowed plant life in their eyes
- when c.o.i gain contact again with him it's seen as a shock, he wasn't meant to live that much longer
Even we're ready "to cut the line" to never be able to ull him back up so hearing him actively speak and be alive
- the voice that speaks pretending to be the scientist lady from SM-8 mentions a god that understands it all when looking at the universe through a pinhole
In that story Simon is a god looking at the blood ocean through a blinding camera Pinhole thinking he understands everything just through those simple pictures
-if we want to go into the nitty gritty religion parts of it all we could also see Simon as jesus in some way
A man crucified over actions he hasn't done but was blamed for,
- both people who seems to "save humanity" through death through their selfless actions to let their brutal end happen
-how to back track into the movie a bit something that bugs me is Ava yelling out at another free member to "get the 14" when planning to get to Simon The sm-14 to be exact, before they knew anything or had any plans to save him the sm-14 was already created and ready for expedition
Ava loves to talk about how they do not have enough people to send on death missions
Then why have there been 14 ships already?
- c.o.i have a lot of interactions with eden folk it seems, with how many times the cult is mentioned and with the previous person on the sm-13 was a brother suggests they have a lot of the cult members to spare and send off
As if trying to eradicate the people
- his mother spoke to him in his final moments
-while speaking to Ava and the eel amongst the several voices was his mother's
Telling him where the eel is and
That c.o.i are watching and always have been
