oh, i'll just go to the library for one book, and that's IT. just one. like this book here! that looks very interesting. i will take out this b- oh, but this book, now this looks very good too. ... it's unfair of me to choose :( i will just take them both, i can always renew them. now time for me to go and study- oh! what's this? oooh what an enticing blurb! i like this book too. my darling you shall go on the pile. everyone belongs. i can always renew them. and while i'm here.. ... i was looking for a book about- yes! this book! this is perfect! ohh i am so glad im not dead. now i have so many wonderful books. this is plenty :) i don't need anym- oh! look! another book... ... ........ .. . i can always renew them......
#and the librarians are like “why not six more?” and i think that's very based of them (OP's very correct tag)
#the librarians don't mind when you take many books?#I'm always a touch worried when I go to the counter with yet another stack of books that reaches my chin (tags from @lotus-ignis)
I know you're not the only one wondering this so: Nope! We don't mind! High circ stats - aka, people checking out things - is how we prove we're useful and worthy of funding.
Anyway, if we did want to slow folks down, libraries are very capable of setting a limit on the number of books people can check out at one time (ours is 50). Most modern systems will automatically stop you if you try to check out over the limit, so if that hasn't happened? Keep going. You can do it. We believe in you. (Don't worry about getting judged if you hit the limit, either. If that happens while a librarian is helping you, they will simply let you know with a knowing nod. Who among us has not been there...)
i'd like to see AI try and replace this work
how could you like the colour yellow
see a therapist immediately
I actually used to hate it! Like, actually despise it! Yellow was too bright, too loud, discordant, unruly, and clashed with everything. Nothing like what I wanted in my life, nothing I wanted to be.
When I first moved away from home, everything I owned was black. Jet back. As black as I could get. Smooth, cool, sleek, discrete, calm, unassuming. Flexible, cohesive, agreeable black. Fashionable black.
I had a really, really bad time. Unrelated to the decor. It was my first year out of a toxic place I'd grown used to my whole life, my first year acknowledging a mental illness I'd believed to be normal, my first year fending for myself with very little money or sleep or companionship.
I'd grown up on instant white rice and unseasoned ground beef. One day I realized that everything I'd been raised on tasted like cardboard. While out on an assignment, I passed a tent with a woman selling spices, and bought myself some turmeric. I went home and tried making curry with it. It was so yellow.
Another time, my professor took us out to a modern art gallery. I wasn't sure what I was expecting, but when we got there, the whole building had been painted bright sunshine yellow.
The artist's theme was "happiness".
What it is. How we make it. How to share it.
All bright, lovely yellow.
The house I grew up in was beige. The walls were white. The appliances were post 9/11 stainless steel. My job was to be quiet, compliant, presentable and agreeable.
Black goes with everything. Black is neutral. Black is quiet, reserved, elegant and mysterious.
Yellow is warm. Yellow does what it wants. Yellow tastes sweet and spicy and hot and cool, like a summer breeze, like sunflower petals, powdery like dust on a long dirt road and soothing like well-worn linen.
I still like the look of black. I like the look of most colors. But I like the way that Yellow makes me feel.
Do you understand?

I’m convinced if ppl on this site knew how crappy gifs look before you color them properly, they would appreciate editors more
for context reasons, this is how a gif I used in a recent gifset looks like without any adjustments/coloring whatsoever:
and here it is afterwards:
I truly don’t think people realize how dingy and dark most movies and tv shows actually are so they can’t appreciate the work and skill it takes to make gifs look the way your brain “remembers” it looking.
Another before and after example:
This gif needed 6 different adjustment layers, not including the sharpening process, which is its own separate challenge. The blue window was also changed to green to keep the palette more consistent and to reduce the range of colors needed, because a wider range of colors generally results in worse gif quality since gifs only support a max of 256 (compared to the millions your monitor can display).
yeah…
I was already going to reblog this because gifmakers need all the love, but the little lambie made sure that I was definitely going to do it.
dark scenes are truly the bane of every gifmaker’s soul
The ecosystem of tumblr fandom relies on gif makers - put some respect on their names!!

The entire range of human skin tones varies from so pale white that it's almost kind of blue, to so deep black that it's almost kind of blue, and I think that's beautiful. Do you love the colour of the guy.

I don’t like this actually
This is depressing does anyone else find this depressing
I would actually make the argument that the heart of the problem here is not either about fans, as the article claims, or production companies being exploitative cowards, as some of the comments are claiming. The heart of the problem is the increasingly eroding privacy we are seeing in the modern age.
There's some people in the comments saying "fandoms have always been like this" and others saying "No, it's worse than it was." And both are to some extent right. Fans (or at least a small percentage of fans, and the larger a fanbase gets the larger a group this will describe) have always been Like That; but they did not always have the level of access to creators and actors that they have now.
The notion that a performer needs to be constantly available to public scrutiny, that their personal information should by default be available to any rando with google, is pretty new. It used to be that actors would only be expected to engage with the public on limited, specific, and controlled occasions, usually with security provided. Now they're being asked to rawdog exposure to the mob 24/7 on their own.
(Also, production companies have always always always been exploitative cowards, just to get that straight; reading the biographies of literally any actress from golden Hollywood years makes that clear. It's just, again, more public now.)
There has also been a negative feedback loop as fandoms come to realize that the constant access they have to creatives increases their leverage and power. It did not use to be the case that this was so; fandoms pre-internet largely worked under the assumption that they didn't really have any meaningful way to contact or influence the publication houses. Even if they sent a letter or a campaign of letters, they wouldn't even know whether the letters were being received or read unless the publishing house chose to respond. So, without that expectation of access, the drama usually stayed internal. Nowadays, with constant immediate feedback from creators and publishers, fans are ever more incentivized to act out to try to push an agenda, get attention, or just vent whatever is going on in their lives onto a face contractually obliged to be friendly to them.
