Okay, I want to talk about this because I just found out, and I'm honestly at the point where I'm tired of the same old thing.
The Freak Circus fandom didn't even last five months, and there's already harassment of certain artists who don't like the "Pierrot x Harlequin" ship. Because they say that if they don't like it, they're "homophobic"...
What? It makes no sense at all. If you don't like a gay ship for whatever reason, that doesn't make you homophobic. It's just immature people saying that, thinking they're doing something "good." When in reality, they're not. I mean, there are many people who don't like heterosexual ships as much, because of how they're developed and so on. And that's fine, not everyone has to like the same things, but that doesn't mean they hate heterosexuals, please.
It's because of things like this that I don't like to go into the BL or Yaoi community. (Look, I know not everyone is like this.) I only go into the GL community. For example, what happened with Digital Circus, when they were going to introduce a frog character, and people thought it was male, so they started shipping it with Jax. If it had ended there, there wouldn't have been a problem, but when they said the character was actually female, people went crazy, saying they didn't like the ship anymore, that it was disgusting, and things like that.
What also worries me a lot is the creator of The Freak Circus, because he even had to intervene, and I really don't want him to get discouraged or upset. And I'm not just saying this because if things continue like this, the game won't continue. (Like most visual novels that don't even make it to chapter 5.) But also for his sake, because I wouldn't want him to get sad or affected by it.
Obviously, there's no such thing as a perfect fandom; some are healthier than others, for example. The game with the healthiest community I've seen is Sky: Children of the Light. But even so, it's not perfect, and there are others that are more toxic, which are the larger fandoms. (For example, fandoms of video games that have been around for a long time.) So...
That's all. Please, don't keep fighting over these things... It tarnishes the community and affects the creator.
