just saw someone legit make a carbon copy of this post on instagram without giving even the slightest bit of credit and now i’m pissed lol. it’s a tale as old as time but i’m so tired of seeing creators — even in their humblest forms — and their hard work be neglected in such a dismissive manner. i know it might seem like i’m making drama out of nothing, but come on. a gifset isn’t something you make in two seconds: you choose a theme, you select the scenes from countless hours of content, you download them in the highest possible quality, you load them onto photoshop, you make the gifs, you color each and every one of them paying close attention to what adjustments suit the specific gif best (and that’s a pain in the ass), you save them and post them on tumblr, and even after posting on tumblr, the gifset may or may not do well, and even if it does well, it will still statistically receive more likes than reblogs — which isn’t necessarily bad, there’s just a big difference between the two. all of that purely for the sake of creating and adding our fingerprint to fandoms we love, and some people just flat out don’t care. what i essentially mean with all of this is: words of recognition — words that CREDIT, validate and imply appreciation for the hard work someone puts onto the process of creating — mean so so so so so much. they don’t take up much space, also; but while they might seem unimportant to a lot of people, they certainly aren’t to the one whose hands created the original post. i know i’m not the first person to complain about this and i certainly won’t be the last. i’m also sorry for ranting and adding unnecessary rage to your timelines; i just needed to get this off my chest. and if by any chance you’re the person whose instagram i referred to in the first paragraph, just know that i don’t hold any grudges — i know this might seem like a paradoxical statement if you consider pretty much everything i said, but i know (or at least, hope) that this wasn’t done out of any ill-intent, and my anger wasn’t directed at you as a specific target. i feel like this rant was more me being an old woman yelling at a cloud than anything else. but still. i hope i’ve made my point across. anyway. stay safe everyone!
