Inevitably, there are always statements of the âwhat does it matter, weâre all people, who caresâ variety around discussions such as this. But it matters a lot. For LGBT people to see themselves represented on screen is a vital part of not feeling alone, and feeling accepted. And for straight people to see LGBT people on screen, it normalizes an experience that may not be their own. Ultimately, it works out better for everyone (except homophobes, but theyâll be fine).
