When it reality, it is not as a black and white as it appears to be. "How people treat you is a reflection of how they feel about themselves,” is a statement that is used too often to presume that one might hate themselves or lack self-love who is why they are treating you a certain way. this can actually be harmful. and the reason why is because it shifts blame for a persons behavior onto someone else, when in reality, people will respond to you depending on how you treat them. If you are going to be a problematic person, don't be surprised when you don't receive kindness. If you are going to be a hateful person, don't be surprised if it's hard for people to respond to you with love. The reality is it is common for people to match what they are given. So how someone treats you doesn't mean they hate themselves, it could simply mean that they don't want to engage with you. And because we naturally self-protect, people will do what they need to to ensure that others do not cause them harm. The reason why it is so important to practice self-reflection in life is because it's important to be mindful of how you interact with others. Self-reflection is not just about how to be grounded in who you are, it is also about seeing how you interact with the world around you. So next time you see this phrase online, I encourage you to dig a little deeper and not take it as absolute truth. The reality is people's actions are not black and white.
