I mainly made this to represent some abstract concept that I feel like everyone is aware of, but can't really articulate. I like to think of it as some shortage of care in the world- not really in the sense that people don't have enough care inside them already, because they really do- but that there is not enough given to each person. In my mind, care is no finite resource. If you try hard enough, it can be infinite, I think. But many treat it as if it costs them something, which I can't understand.

My largest inspiration for the style of this piece was Soviet propaganda posters from the mid-20th century. Minimal color schemes, harsh lines, geometric forms, etc. One of the main symbols in this painting is the Khrushchevka (or khrushchyovka if you're a nerd), a style of copy-and-paste apartment block common in the USSR under Nikita Khrushchev (its namesake). To me, it represents this theme of uncaringness exactly- a building that shows no care to its residents other than the functional necessity it provides. This style of architecture is known as "brutalism," which I think is a very accurate way to describe it. I think it makes people brutalist too- when you are surrounded by nothing of beauty, you begin to think beauty cannot exist.
