Day 4 of posting about lighthouses
Cape Disappointment Light
Built in an area that was still considered Oregon territory, Cape Disappointment is Washington States oldest lighthouse. It was constructed and first lit in 1856. Interestingly enough, it lived up to its name through an assortment of early shortcomings. These shortcomings include; it’s 1600 pound fog bell was often too quite to hear over the waves, it’s light was not visible to the north (making it so another lighthouse was necessary), and when the lens first arrived to the already constructed tower it was found to be to big, which added another two years to construction to correct this. Despite this, the light still stands tall, being automated in 1973. We still love you, Cape Disappointment!

[ID: A conical lighthouse with black metal work and a black lantern roof. There is a small work shed attached to the base of the light. The most notable thing about the light is the dramatic weathering that the whole structure has, with rust coloring the tower red and brown in some places.]
