been really hard for me to talk about this but the NSW government is trying to kill my dad’s bees, even though they’re not infested with the varroa mite.

it’s friday morning in sydney; today’s the date my dad’s 60 healthy beehives are scheduled to be killed by the NSW government. not only is our bees’ survival at stake, but also my family’s livelihood.

the DPI refuses to share the “extensive scientific modelling” its eradication approach is based on, an approach which has failed everywhere else in the world. safe treatment methods for honeybee hives infested with varroa mite have been the global standard for decades; killing healthy bees as part of an eradication approach is as cruel as it is ineffective.

NSW parliament will debate our petition if we can get to 20k signatures — we’re halfway there and haven’t given up hope.

had a chat with junkee about the NSW DPI’s plans to kill my dad’s 60 healthy beehives tomorrow. we’ve been stonewalled by the government at every turn and time is running out for us, this petition is our last resort. NSW parliament only debates petitions with over 20k signatures and we’re almost halfway there, please sign and share far and wide!

dolfi, who is mika @terefah @mikabenesh ‘s father, is facing the killing of all his bees because of a cruel and unsubstantiated policy in NSW. as of Oct 4, NSW DPi has said they will kill his entire beehive this Friday, despite the lack of any presence of varroa mite in the hive.

the petition is currently at 1,500+ signatures but they need 14,000 before the NSW government will consider the petition.

if this NSW policy continues as planned, the govt will kill hundreds of thousands of bees.

I know dates get lost a lot on tumblr but this post is being made on Oct 4 and the euthanisation is set to take place on Oct 7.
