RT's Miitopia playthrough was great and now it lives in my brain

Okay, so! Time to go on a long rant about every character!! Here's the list of characters and the roles they fill from the No I'm Not A Human cast. Some of them actually fill multiple roles here, since there are a lot less characters in the core RTGame Miitopia cast than there are No I'm Not A Human characters by a pretty significant margin, lol. With that in mind, here they are!

Magical John - Pale Visitor

Chat - Protagonist/Coat Guy

I Want Die - Neighbor

Jefferson - Neighbor's Daughter (or, grandson, in this case!)

Cupcake - Vigilante/Neighbor's Daughter (much like the Vigilante in the game is the Neighbor's brother, Cupcake is IWD's adopted daughter here!)

Dread - Cashier

Gilbert - Runaway Teen (or, child, lol)

Goofy - Bandana Guy

Barackula - Cheerful Guy

Mr. Bean - Foreigner

So, yeah! I definitely switched things around a fair bit for this AU. Admittedly, I Want Die would probably make more sense logically as the protagonist, but my Chatical brain wanted to force those two to interact, lol. But an alternate version of this AU where I Want Die is the protagonist and End Mii takes the place of the Neighbor while Chat's just Coat Guy alone also works!!

Otherwise, I think End Mii could be the Babushka, maybe. Or perhaps she'd take the place of the Ballerina Lady, except instead of a cat, she brings an entire horse? Don't quite know how Mint would work in this AU, lol. But rest assured she's there somewhere! Khadgar could be the prophet, and Von Karma might be the Death Cult leader. :)

Anyway, as for the specifics of the main party's role choices, I'm sure a lot of these are fairly self-explanatory. For instance, Goofy is the Bandana Guy entirely because that's the voice RT happened to give him in his own playthrough, lol. Plus, considering Goofy's whole deal with cleansing the filth of the world and whatnot, it kinda fits! Mr. Bean is the Foreigner because he can only say the word "bean", which is sort of similar to the Foreigner's struggle with not being understood by anyone else in the game if you squint. Barackula is the Cheerful Guy because I feel they're both have similar personalities, being optimistic and flamboyant. Jefferson and Gilbert take the places of the two child characters, with Gilbert being the Teen because he's the more outwardly rebellious of the two.

Dread takes the place of the Cashier because they're both generally very anxious characters, and I thought putting Dread into a role where they're guaranteed to be a visitor would be really interesting! I Want Die got the Neighbor role because I wanted him to be someone important and plot-relevant, since he IS the literal main character, and that was the best role I could think of aside from the protagonist. It does mean he fulfills his namesake though, unfortunately. And Cupcake is generally very associated with violence, considering the great Wooloo massacre that RT had to go through to get her and how much of a heavy hitter she is throughout Miitopia, so making her the bloodthirsty vigilante seemed fitting to me!! If anyone could hold their own out there in the apocalypse, I think it'd be her.

And then, of course, there are the centerpieces of my version of this AU, Chat and Magical John. They got the most important roles because they're my favorites, obviously, lol.

Magical John as the Pale Visitor is also pretty self-explanatory, I think. A lot of people have made the comparison between their voices in RT's playthrough already, plus they have a similarly creepy and offputting vibe. Granted, the Pale Visitor is a lot more outwardly violent, but still! The similarities are there.

Finally, there's Chat. I already explained why they're the protagonist, which is purely because I wanted to force them to deal with Magical John and they're one of my favorites, but they've also got a secondary role as the Coat Guy. Which means that Chat, much like Dread, is a visitor!! I elected to put them in this role because I thought the idea of the protagonist being a visitor was always really fascinating! It's a big theory in the game itself, and although it's not necessarily something I believe, I thought it'd be fun to play into here. Plus, Chat's whole mask situation really parallels Coat Guy's circumstances in the game. A lot of people like to play with the concept of Chat being a sort of eldritch abomination without their mask, and Coat Guy's got a black hole underneath his coat which kills whoever looks at it. So, I figured that combination for characters really worked! Plus, Coat Guy and the in-game Protagonist also have a lot of parallels, considering the themes of loneliness and isolation throughout both of their stories, so I thought those roles would work well in tandem too!! So, that's why Chat goes into those two roles in particular. :)

Of course, there are a lot of other characters throughout both games that I haven't covered here. I haven't thought out anyone else's roles, but if anyone has any ideas for the supporting cast, please let me know!! I'd love to hear everyone else's thoughts on this.

As for some more lore about the world and the characters themselves beyond which roles they play, I imagine in this version of the story, a lot of people start wearing masks to hide their visitor signs. These characters include Jefferson, who started wearing one because of I Want Die's advice, Dread, and Goofy. A lot of people find this behavior suspicious, but it's a common enough phenomenon even among people who aren't visitors that it's not (usually) enough to get someone killed on sight. People who happen to have suspicious traits or don't want to be scrutinized begin hiding their faces after the cataclysm begins. Chat's an exception though; I imagine that they've been wearing a mask for years before the apocalypse even starts. I'd like to think I Want Die comments in the opening scene of the game that they'll fit in more now because other people have started wearing masks as well. :)

I also imagine Magical John is slightly less outwardly violent than the Pale Visitor is, since his goal is still to make friends. That's not to say he doesn't kill people, though, because he DEFINITELY still does, lol. Anyone who he deems to be "unfriendly" (i.e. people who are alone) or anyone who is a serious threat to people who he DOES consider as friends are as good as dead. The soldiers are a good example of this. He'd absolutely still murder the soldiers, and he'd also still display one's head on a stake. But the teenagers might survive, since they're hanging out in a group, even though they're outside.

However, I imagine he'd be a a lot less hostile towards Chat in particular, because they're "best friends". The Pale Visitor in the original game comments that he keeps visiting the Protagonist because he was "chosen", but I think Magical John would do it more because he just likes being around Chat. They might've still been chosen as well, of course, but he'd be bothering them either way. They'd be VERY unhappy to learn that, lol. I think that he'd be generally clingier than the Pale Visitor in the game, and you'd be able to see him doing some horrifying thing or another at the windows nearly every night.

I also think Magical John would be outwardly protective, unlike the Pale Visitor. He would NOT just let Chat wander off with anyone. So, if they attempted to join FEMA, grouped up with von Karma and the death cult, or tried to run away with the Mushroom Man, he'd just murder whoever tried to take them and force them to retreat back into the house. Not fun! They'd need to find some way to get him out of the picture in order to get any of those endings, I guess. Which isn't out of the question, depending on how powerful whatever's under this mask is, but it'd still be a roadblock. That, or they'd need to convince him somehow that those people are "friendly" enough to not deserve to be murdered. But I digress. Because Magical John is so overbearing, this would also mean that in any situation where Chat's life would be threatened, Magical John would prevent them from dying. But this would still lead to a "bad ending", because he'd break into their house afterwards as repayment for saving their life.

Which, I think, is what would happen in this AU's Vigilante Ending.

If Cupcake tried to shoot Chat, Magical John would be on her very quickly. She's fast too, though. Cupcake would be able to get a few parting shots in against Chat before going down; one to the stomach, and one to break that suspicious mask they always wear.

It's not enough to kill them. Not yet. But Magical John can't just leave his dear friend to bleed out all alone, now can he?

So, yeah. Bad ending. :)
