I can make any song Magical John coded if I squint hard enough, honestly, lmao. But this one is definitely already in line with his vibes!! The flower imagery and failing relationship stuff is SUPER him.

Thinking about the lyrics and how they relate to MJ is genuinely devastating. The idea that people leaving the speaker is an inevitability? The late nights awake and the desperation for affection?? "People come and surely they go", which then changes to "People come and quickly they go" later??? HEARTBREAKING. I'm devastated. Great recommendation, my heart hurts now, 10/10.

My brain went to Chatical when I first listened to this, naturally, but the more I thought about after I realized it was about divorce, the more I realized it actually applies to his relationship with the Volcano Goddess as well!! I think that if Chatical WERE to divorce, it'd probably go a lot like the divorce explored in the song, with Magical John feeling neglected and unloved due to Chat's reluctance to express affection, but that thought makes me sad because I love them lol. I'd like to think Chat becomes more open post-canon and winds up being a loving partner in their own way, despite the more vitriolic viewers. But I've always really liked the idea of the Volcano Goddess and Chat being surprisingly similar. A lot of my Volcano Goddess headcanons are pretty fluid, but that's a pretty consistent part of my interpretation of her. So the idea that a relationship with HER would fail in a similar way to a hypothetical Chatical breakup is quite fascinating to me!! Poor Magical John though... Oof.
