Oof season 7 (SPOILERS) revelations got me feeling that good good angst. I don’t know whats gonna happen but if I find out Adam let this beef cake go then he done fucked up I’m sorry I’m callin it. Takashi Shirogane be the greatest good anyone’s ever had. Protect him. Keep him safe and happy. Only mad love for our space dad.

Question: Let’s talk about the Shiro and Adam thing. How long has that been in development? Was that something you guys planned from the start, or was it something that sort of came along in the process?

Joaquim: Well it’s something that’s been in Shiro’s character from the start. We had to kind of shift things around with how we rolled out the backstories, just due to scheduling things. And at one point, as you know, Shiro was potentially gonna kick the bucket. So once we found out that that wasn’t gonna happen, we knew we could kinda hold off on this reveal. But yea, it’s something that’s been part of his character from the get-go, and we’re just super excited to finally get it out there in the world.

Question: What’s it been like to have people almost constantly being like, “Is the show going to be gay?”…

Lauren: It’s similar to when before the show premiered and people were like, “Where’s the women? Where’s the women?” And we kinda had to bite our tongues, because we knew Pidge was going to be revealed as a girl. And it’s a similar deal where we know it’s coming. We know people are going to be upset because they haven’t seen it yet, but we just hope that on the backend they’ll forgive us.

Joaquim: Yea, and that they’re along for the ride, regardless of where anybody stands. Just enjoy the ride.

Question: And then if you guys know, how do Shiro and Adam identify in their sexuality? Are they gay? Bisexual?…

Lauren: I think we just kinda consider them–

Joaquim: They’re in a relationship. I think that’s where they identify.

Lauren: I think the important thing is maybe allow the fans to see what they want to see. We don’t want to put anyone in the corner so that other people feel that they are not represented.

Joaquim: Just so you know, us confirming or not confirming one way or the other either leads to our twitter being destroyed or [unclear]. And we realize that that’s just passion for the show and for the characters and we appreciate it. We just don’t want anybody to feel like they’re not being represented.
