"You know, I thought you would've quit smoking after the end of high school." Keith inquired, taking a puff of his cigarette resting between his fingers—his eyes lingers on the man next to him. "I know I was the one who brought you into it, but eversince.. nevermind- I just assume you would've stopped."

Lance doesn't answer, his thumb kept flicking the wheel, frustration getting the better of him.

He curses under his breath as the lighter refused to do more than hiss gas.

"Damn it," Lance sighed, shaking his head helplessly. "Gimme a hand, will you?"

Keith doesn't say a word, but he kept his smoke steady enough for Lance to lean in, their faces inches apart, catching his light with a brief spark.

It felt familiar, carved by repetition.

They stayed silent for awhile, the air smelling of tobacco and a sense of shared simplicity.

"I never did," Lance piped up, taking a drag from his cigarette and puffing out the smoke into the vacant night sky. "Habits are tough to break."
