it’s a little odd to me that people can’t stop perceiving Gina as a Mean Girl™ for two seconds to realize how important it is for her to finally be softening around someone? I don’t care if you ship Ricky with Nini or Gina or EJ or Big Red or whoever, it is monumental that Gina finally feels like she has a bond with someone at East High. It means we’ll hopefully begin to see who Gina truly is, how she acts when she’s not trying to scheme or show off her skills.
And yeah, I don’t think she’s trying to pull a fast one with Ricky, and if that ends up being the case I’ll be extremely disappointed. All of her other plans have involved her putting on an air of confidence and pretending like she’s completely composed. In her recent scenes with Ricky, it’s the first time we’ve seen her be vulnerable and honest. They relate to feeling like outsiders, to having home drama. Who else on this show has Gina actually spent her free time hanging out with other than Ricky? (I’m referencing the sneak peek for episode 6.) Seriously, if I’m forgetting a scene or two, please lemme know.
No matter if they’re just friends, have a bit of a flirtationship, or actually become romantically involved, it’s incredibly important for Gina’s character arc that the audience sees her start to open up to and become comfortable around a fellow drama club member, and I really think we need to stop demonizing her before we know everything about her.
