so i have to play Rubik’s cube with elements of the hookup wip. Please accept some amnesia Buck as an apology for no hookup updates 😔

“I’m sorry,” Buck blurts out.

Eddie stops mid step, raising an eyebrow and peering at his husband.

“For what I said earlier,” Buck clarifies. His gaze lowers to the cotton blanket then finds Eddie again. “I don’t blame you if you need some time until I figure this all out. I c-can stay with Maddie if it's- if this is weird.”

In two long strides Eddie's at the bedside, gripping the plastic rail instead of reaching for Buck like he wants. “Hey, no, I- it’s not weird for me at all.” He hesitates, bile trying to climb up his throat. “But if it is for you…”

It didn't occur to him before that he should've made that offer, to make Buck more comfortable. Instead he was too focused on Buck potentially leaving him.

“It is. Weird for me.”

Eddie's heart tears in two, unable to keep the disappointment from his voice. “Oh.”

“No! I’m sorry, I- I didn't mean it like that,” Buck interjects. “I just meant all of it is.” He purses his lips, scrunching them to one side. “My sister married Chim.”

Eddie barks out a surprised laugh. “I remember, I was there.”
