TBC Announcement
Hey there trainers, this post will be going over the various aspects of our group and permanent events that will be taking place as well as general rules of the land. This will be a very long post but the information will also be on our Rules page if you don’t want to take in all of the information at once. THE LEADERBOARD
In order to cultivate a friendly competitive atmosphere among our members and to keep things lively, we’re creating a leaderboard. As of now, the only perks that come with being at the top are bragging rights, but other perks may be added later. All members of the Colosseum are on the leaderboard by default, but you are not forced to participate in ranked battles.
INITIATING A SANCTIONED BATTLE FOR THE LEADERBOARD
In order to initiate a ranked battle, simply challenge another member to a battle. If they accept, it iS ON!! Rule sets, tiers, and battle formats are to be worked out between the participants of the battle; however, most battles are known to abide by Smogon rules out of courtesy.
RULES FOR RANKED BATTLES
The outcome of the ranked battle must be reported by the winner to a moderator (dark red text) or admin (pink text). Provide them with the names of the participants, who won the battle, how many pokémon the winner had at the end of the battle, and the battle video code of your battle as proof.
Winning a ranked battle will award five (5) points.
One (1) additional point is awarded for every pokémon still standing on the winner’s team at the end of a battle, for an overall potential of a maximum eleven (11) points per battle.
Losing a battle subtracts five (5) points from your score, with a minimum of zero (0) points at any given time.
Everyone can begin participating in ranked battles for the leaderboard as soon as you join TBC’s Discord server.
THE BATTLE LEAGUE
The Battle League is back in an all new form! This league will not be run 24/7/365 as the past incarnation did, but rather will now run in seasons lasting six (6) weeks with three (3) week breaks between each season. As with the leaderboard, participation in the league is entirely optional; however, should you choose to participate in the league season, you will need to register a team of six (6) pokémon and familiarize yourself with the standard Smogon competitive rules, clauses, and ban lists.
RULES FOR THE CHALLENGERS
Basic Smogon competitive rules, clauses, and banned pokémon apply.
The pokémon in Smogon’s Uber tier specifically is banned.
From the moment you challenge the league, you will be locked into your selected team of six (6) pokémon. This rule is in place to prevent one-sided match ups against our gym leaders. Examples of this situation would be a challenger bringing a full ground type team to challenge the electric gym leader.
You may switch out one (1) team member when battling a leader who you’ve lost to. This can be done a maximum of three (3) times. Your team may NOT have more than three (3) substitutes at any given time. After a victory, you must revert to your registered team.
When you’ve earned eight (8) badges, you may move on to challenge the Elite Four and after them, the Champion.
You are NOT allowed to substitute pokémon while challenging the E4. Teams are completely locked. You will however be given the chance to make last minute changes to your registered team before you challenge the E4 for the first time.
If you wish to change a member of your team, or build a new E4 challenge team altogether, you will need to restart your E4 challenge from the very beginning.
Should you win your way past the top of the food-chain, you have the choice of only being a record in our Hall of Fame or you can also become the next Champion.
League matches will not contribute in any way to your leaderboard score.
RULES FOR THE LEADERS
The outcome of all battles, be that a win or loss, must be reported to an admin or moderator.
All gym leaders will have a predetermined set of two (2) static pokémon on their team, which will be displayed on their individual pages. These pokémon are to remain on their teams at all times as they are the gym leader’s mascots. The rest of the pokémon of the leader’s team can and will be rotated with any pokémon of their designated type. This rule is set in place to avoid being trapped by predictable strategies, as having a monotype team can be extremely limiting against challengers that can craft a varied team to cover their weaknesses. This same rule applies to all Elite Four members.
The reigning Champion will have a team of six (6) pokémon that they are locked into after choosing said team upon their ascension to the title.
Only eight (8) gym leaders will be active in any given season. Remaining leaders will be on stand-by and be unable to participate in league matches as a gym leader. While on stand-by, becoming a challenger and participating in this way is perfectly acceptable.
At the end of a season, leaders will be shuffled; the top four (4) leaders of the season (determined by a win/loss ratio) will compose the Elite Four in the next season. This way, challengers will have to stick around if they aim to gain the badges of all available types.
The Champion will maintain their position from season to season until they are dethroned.
The Battle League’s very first season will begin in early 2017 when pokébank is scheduled to become compatible for Pokémon Sun and Moon versions. Keep an eye out for an announcement via this blog or twitter!
THE BATTLE COLOSSEUM TOURNAMENTS
Starting in the three (3) week break after the first Battle League season, and every subsequent season, we will hold a tournament for all members to participate in for the chance to win various prizes! (Upcoming tournament prizes will be announced near the end of the current Battle League season) Just like our leaderboard and league challenges, participation in the tournaments is completely optional.
Tournaments will have varying rules and themes. For example, one tournament could possibly be a tournament where battles are strictly rotation battles, while the next will be a 3v3 singles format. As for themes, there’s lots of possibilities for those so wait for the rules to be announced!
UNIVERSAL TOURNAMENT RULES
Regardless of the individual tournament rules or theme, these rules will always apply:
You must register a set team which cannot be changed once the tournament has begun.
Pokémon teams are limited to one (1) pokémon per species. Meaning you cannot have two pokémon with the same national pokédex number. An example of a team that wouldn’t be allowed would be: Empoleon, Rotom Mow, Rotom Fan, Scrafty, Gogoat, and Incineroar due to the Rotoms sharing a national ‘dex number.
The outcome of the battle must be reported to an admin or moderator.
Tournament matches also will not contribute positively or negatively to your leaderboard score.
GENERAL RULES
Build Flexibility: Although your teams will be locked and unchangeable, you are allowed to customize the builds, items, and/or move sets of any of your pokémon at any given time to your discretion.
Battle Format: All battles for the Battle League will be 6v6. Whether or not they are singles, doubles, or another format will be up to the gym leaders’ personal preference and play style. All pokémon will be set to level 50 during the battle.
Leader Schedule: Each gym leader will have different available times, so please do not rush them into battling you. They will determine how and when you battle as well as determine how many rematches they are accepting every day. Our leaders will not be forced to rematch a challenger multiple times in a row if said challenger keeps losing.
Mega Evolutions: Mega evolutions must fit the type of the gym. If a pokémon only fits the typing of a gym after it mega-evolves, the leader must then mega evolve that pokémon on their first turn of action that it has appeared.
Member Confidentiality: If in the instance you need to message an admin with any concerns about any member of our community, i.e. if you suspect someone of breaking rules or they’ve been saying cruel things to you or anyone else, your identity will remain anonymous and a group of admins will investigate the matter.
