So I thought I was gonna be cute and make a video thanking everyone for their support so far- but I kept getting teary and tongue tied! This face is a cross between being ecstatic and deeply touched by how many people have been supporting the #lbdi Little Black Dress Initiative. Every parent wants their child to inherit a better world. For my daughter, I have desires and dreams.  Dreams that she experiences the realities of a glass ceiling because of a simulation conducted in a sociology class. I desire that she be paid fairly for her work instead of fighting twice as hard to earn 63 cents for every dollar her male friends make. I want her and her classmates to never know what period poverty is because our community has pulled together to eradicate that issue completely. Know that certain needs are not covered by SNAP or Medicaid.  Rethink what poverty looks like.  If you have never called out for work or missed school because you did not have feminine products you are blessed and have experienced a privilege that not all of our neighbors in central Virginia can claim. There are challenges that come with being a female, but being worried about if you can afford or access feminine products should not be one of them. I am participating in the Fifth-Annual Little Black Dress Initiative- a fundraising campaign spearheaded by the Junior League of Lynchburg. Through this event, we aim to change the cycle and bring awareness to women in poverty and period poverty. Our goal is to raise at least $8,000 in support of the YWCA, Johnsons Health Center, and the JLL. I will raise funds while wearing one black dress (or black attire) every day throughout the week of October 19-23; my hope is that this black dress prompts conversation and awareness. I haven't cried this much for an actor dying since Paul Walker. I am so sad to learn of Chadwick Boseman's passing. He is an inspiration. I'm truly happy and honored to announce that the Midtown Outdoor Art Gallery is open! It has been a little over a year on this collaborative journey with Randy of @thecraftcrucible and I couldn't be more blown away by the end result. Randy is a visionary and a true ally.
