Disabling likes.
Hey, folks! We’ve received numerous questions about disabling likes as a way of forcing people to reblog, so we thought we would put this answer together before WIP takes a short break over the holidays.
Unfortunately, we don’t think we would ever add an option to control likes in the same way we have the option to control reblogs and replies on normal Tumblr blogs. Likes serve an extremely important function as a way for us to understand how to recommend content to others—and it very much affects those algorithms that help power the For You feed, the “Because you liked…” recommendations, and how we sort posts in search results. People engaging with a post in any way—liking, reblogging, replying, Blazing, following—can help boost that post to people who haven’t seen it before.
However, we did make the conscious decision not to include likes in our new Communities feature and instead focus on comments. We may revisit that, but the idea with communities speaks to a need you’re talking about—the desire to have a known group of people who will appreciate your work, instead of throwing it out there to the void and hoping people see it.
We hope you try that out and see if it helps here! Thanks for your question.

Hi any friends here?
I've seen a lot of posts welcoming new Tumblr users, but I haven't seen any welcoming old users BACK. So, if you're returning, here's some fun new stuff Tumblr has added. Some of this may be desktop only right now, but Tumblr has been very good about migrating features to mobile without too much delay. I'm also primarily a desktop user, so some buttons may be in different spots on mobile.
You can now turn off reblogs on your posts, even the old ones. Click on the little gear icon at the top of the post window and towards the bottom to set reblogs to "anyone" or "no one."
You can have up to 30 images in a post now! Just be sure to be respectful and tag it as a long post.
Speaking of long posts, you can now set tumblr to automatically shorten anything over a certain length. It's under Settings>Dashboard.
Tumblr now has content labels, which is what has allowed them to bring back mature content art. These are important, so please use them. You can turn them on on each post individually by clicking the "everyone" drop down next to the "post now" button. And you can control how your dashboard shows or doesn't show labeled posts by going to Settings>Account.
You can now filter tags and post content via tumblr itself without using something like XKit! This is also under Settings>Account.
Tumblr offers an ad-free subscription now. $40 a year. If you love this little hellsite, this is a great way to show support!
Tumblr also allows users to pay to turn their posts into ads now. It's called blazing a post. It is great fun and generally hilarious. You have no control over your audience. You're just yeeting your post, of any sort, not just advertising, off into the void. An ad-free subscription hides these posts, but you can in fact turn blazed posts specifically back on while blocking the rest of the ads. Blaze a post by clicking on the little flame icon at the bottom. You can only blaze your own posts.
You can buy fun little tchotchkys for your dashboard and, sometimes, the dashboards of others. Right now we've got crabs, a horse that shits everywhere, and the super special double blue checkmarks. These are just fun little things to play with.
You can now enable tipping on your blog/individual posts. Totally optional, of course, but can be useful if you're a creator.
Staff has been a lot more active this last year, so if you want to keep up with what is going on be sure to follow @staff, @changes, and @wip.
That's all I can think of. Everyone else is free to add to this!
Back on tumblr?
Anyone here? 😂

The 450-plus member Enterprise Ethereum Alliance is set to release its common blockchain standards for business users before the end of 2018.
The Enterprise Ethereum Alliance (EEA) intends to release a set of common blockchain standards for businesses in 2018, one of the consortium’s leading members said Thursday.
Onstage at Blockchain Expo in London, Jeremy Millar, a founding board member of the 450-member group, which boasts Accenture, JP Morgan and UBS among its ranks, provided the update as part of a talk that sought to give an overview of the general progress made by the consortium since it was first founded in 2017.
In his talk, Millar began by stressing to the audience the importance of setting common standards when it comes to technology adoption.
Millar told the crowd:
“We need interfaces to plug into. Now this might sound boring. It might not be top of mind for developers looking to launch a white paper and promote their ICO on Telegram.”
Millar went on to cite the addition of former WiMAX Forum president Ron Resnick as EEA executive director as a hire that would bolster the consortium, which now has 15 employees looking at architecture and technical specifications.
Elsewhere, he said the group has seen progress on setting standards and specs relating to “oracles,” or smart contracts meant to feed external data into blockchain systems.
Overall, it was a timely appearance, as EEA rival R3 has recently sought to call out the group for a supposed lack of delivery on promises, with the startup even calling the state of the EEA code “moribund.” (Like the EEA, R3 is also a consortium and technology provider seeking to bring blockchain applications to global enterprises.)
The EEA would later pen a sarcastic Medium post that sought to highlight the benefits of its approach, which it has long argued is more aligned with the open-source developer movement that has sprung up around ethereum, the world’s second largest public blockchain by total value.
In this way, Millar added that it’s likely some EEA features will be taken back into the code for the public ethereum blockchain in the form of ethereum improvement proposals (EIPs).
“Next phase will be a testnet. And once we start seeing code coming out, we need certification,” said Millar.
Still, he sought to galvanize support for the effort, concluding:
“Let’s do this together as a community because we will all benefit from it. I urge you to take part in our network - it’s very affordable to join.”
