if u just want my personal opinion—it was honestly rly good, but i have mixed feelings :/ the whole app idea was interesting and makes it unique, but i feel like it’s the same kind of love triangle you would see in typical romance dramas if you don’t count the app’s part in the plot.

pros

i love how the show was going on (almost) v smoothly! every actor/actress fit their character, and every scene of the show was good. i can’t express how good the show was, so all i can say is if u watch it, u wont be disappointed!

problems

these r not rly problems ig, but just some things that trigger me lol.

the reason behind the climax of the plot was honestly so unclear? like exactly what made jojo break up with seonoh (pls correct me if i spelled his name wrong sjshdj i was just focusing on what happened that i didn’t know half of the character’s names)? like i get it’s bc of her past or hardships or something, but what particularly triggered her to break up w seonoh? i think from when the climax occurred the story became kinda confusing and downhill from there, but ig it was not rly as bad bc they focused on hyeyoung and jojo in that time, which i’m not mad ab!

another thing which i think everyone is mad ab, the rly annoying, big cliffhanger! the fact that we got the worst cliffhanger possible makes me so triggered :( i heard that if the drama happens to not be such a success (which i doubt, but it’s a possibility) then they won’t make a s2, so we might just be left in the dark with this ending :/ it should’ve just been completed in 1 season, but netflix just wants us to suffer and wait for s2 so they can make more money 🤡

this is somehow related to the whole weird climax of the plot: how most of jojo’s decisions r stupid. she could’ve been with seonoh for the entire show, but for the sake of drama—and the whole story and love triangle—ofc she broke up with him. this is typical, which i’ll let it slide a bit, but that’s what i hate. i’m happy that hyeyoung has a chance to show his love for jojo, but seonoh deserved better. he was v sweet to jojo and didn’t do anything wrong, but jojo was honestly selfish. then again, w her situation ig it’s reasonable, but then again it isn’t? everything is very revolting.

characters

i think all of the characters r very nice tho—except for jojo’s aunt and cousin, gulmi. i hate her with all my heart lmao. i dont think i need to say smth ab her, other than that i hope she’ll get out of her fantasy and get on w reality (and also stop being a bitch to jojo).

jojo is a rly nice character, but as what i said, i don’t like most of the decisions she made throught s1. with seonoh though, he has a v nice personality—not to mention the actor is handsome. i don’t blame seonoh for hving a grudge against jojo. after all, she was the one who dumped him for no! particular! reason!

hyeyoung. i love him so so much!! he is v v underrated. he’s the most unproblematic character. he’s actually cute and has pretty eyes. i can’t forget his smile too :,) i like how he is loyal to seonoh and didn’t let his crush for jojo affect their friendship (ig after the time he left seonoh’s house kinda contradicts that, but i mean.. seonoh has a gf (yukjo) so hyeyoung can flirt w jojo and seonoh shouldn’t be mad ab it, and he’s been living in seonoh’s house for a long time).

final thoughts

rating: 9/10

overall, this show was actually v good. the idea of hving an app opening your feelings to someone and showing the pros and cons of it is intriguing. other than that weird reason to create the climax and the worst ever cliffhanger, it still stands good. i’m still mad that it had that cliffhanger, but we’ll (hopefully) get s2 so ig it’s ok. the characters r v lovable, not to mention pretty/handsome! i def enjoyed the show, and for sure i will hv heartaches bc of it for the next few weeks or so :,)

also i hope the ending will end up being seonoh and jojo getting together! in the webtoon ik that hyeyoung and jojo got together (if they end up as a couple in the show too, i won’t be mad ab that! i love their chemistry too :,)) but i hope that seonoh and jojo will be a couple so it can be a win-win for shippers!

For years I asked, pleaded for a chance to own my work. Instead I was given an opportunity to sign back up to Big Machine Records and ‘earn’ one album back at a time, one for every new one I turned in. I walked away because I knew once I signed that contract, Scott Borchetta would sell the label, thereby selling me and my future. I had to make the excruciating choice to leave behind my past. Music I wrote on my bedroom floor and videos I dreamed up and paid for from the money I earned playing in bars, then clubs, then arenas, then stadiums. 

Some fun facts about today’s news: I learned about Scooter Braun’s purchase of my masters as it was announced to the world. All I could think about was the incessant, manipulative bullying I’ve received at his hands for years. 

Like when Kim Kardashian orchestrated an illegally recorded snippet of a phone call to be leaked and then Scooter got his two clients together to bully me online about it. (See photo) Or when his client, Kanye West, organized a revenge porn music video which strips my body naked. Now Scooter has stripped me of my life’s work, that I wasn’t given an opportunity to buy. Essentially, my musical legacy is about to lie in the hands of someone who tried to dismantle it.

This is my worst case scenario. This is what happens when you sign a deal at fifteen to someone for whom the term ‘loyalty’ is clearly just a contractual concept. And when that man says ‘Music has value’, he means its value is beholden to men who had no part in creating it. 

When I left my masters in Scott’s hands, I made peace with the fact that eventually he would sell them. Never in my worst nightmares did I imagine the buyer would be Scooter. Any time Scott Borchetta has heard the words ‘Scooter Braun’ escape my lips, it was when I was either crying or trying not to. He knew what he was doing; they both did. Controlling a woman who didn’t want to be associated with them. In perpetuity. That means forever. 

Thankfully, I am now signed to a label that believes I should own anything I create. Thankfully, I left my past in Scott’s hands and not my future. And hopefully, young artists or kids with musical dreams will read this and learn about how to better protect themselves in a negotiation. You deserve to own the art you make.

I will always be proud of my past work. But for a healthier option, Lover will be out August 23.
