long story short, I survived.

Sav nodded, it wasn’t her fault that she accidentally interrupted him. After all, everyone was having a great time, Sav just felt like he had a lot more to focus on when there were plenty of others making sure that the dance was a success. “No problem Mia, you know me, the guy who is here to help people fix there shows.” Seeing as she asked him why he wasn’t out on the dance floor, he smiled lightly. “Well, I’ve been wanting to kind of work on a few projects but I accidentally forgot that the dance was the same day that I figured it would be best to work on it. So, now I’m here fulfilling my duty.” Taking out the other earbud, he then placed his earbuds back in his pocket as he adjusted his suit. “Are you having fun at least?”

“And we love you for that!” Mia teased, giving Sav a playful nudge on the shoulder. “Duties? At a dance?” she nearly scolded, tsk tsking under her breath. “I’m having fun because I left my duties in the bathtub at home.” She quirked her head, realizing how odd that might have sounded. “You know, my duties meaning my kid. Anyway, this is a dance! Not a school assignment, you should be leaving responsibilities at the door.”

Darcy gave a shake of her head, her ponytail following swiftly in each direction, as she lifted a hand, fingers splayed out. “It’s fine,” she assured, taking in a deep breath and then gulped hard. She forced herself to smile, agreeing with her teammate even though her voice seemed to last the usual luster, “Oh, yeah. Totally. Should be fun.”

Darcy took in a deep breath at the sound of Mia’s apology, her mood instantly deflating like someone had popped a balloon holding all her confidence. “Oh, uh,” she stuttered to find an acceptable response. She had mostly been telling everyone it was fine or alright; even though, it obviously wasn’t. “Um, thanks,” she shrugged, finally finding a single word, her eyes wandering to the floor away from Mia’s. She understood everyone was just trying to be nice, but she felt kind of like a punching bag. Everyone just wanted to remind her she was now fatherless and had a mount of new daddy issues.
